Where are all the Springfield 1911s?

I've checked three of my local gunshops, and I can't find a Springfield Mil-Spec anywhere, and they're telling me they can't get them from their distributors. Any thoughts on how long I should wait to check back with them?

I picked up my SA 1911 Mil-Spec (stainless steel version) last year from a gun shop in San Luis Obispo County. The guy that sold it to me and I got talking about them and apparently SA has very few people working on the lower model 1911's. Finding them new can take a long time depending on where you are. Use http://gungenie.com/genie/default.aspx to see if there are any in stock in your area. If not, most gun shops will put one on order for you. You might have to wait a while, but you can get one eventually if you reserve one. I just got lucky finding the one I wanted in a shop.

The ebb and flow of 1911s can be interesting sometimes. earlier this year SA base model 1911s like the GI and MilSpec were all over San Diego county. Now you can't find them. Colts? Don't even hope for it. I know someone who has been waiting over 6 months for the one he wants.

I checked Davidson's Gun Genie and saw zero for the parkerized mil-spec. I have the springfield loaded parkerized, but I'm feeling a bit old school these days. I want to get a mil-spec for the GI type MSH, Grip Safety, Thumbsafety, and trigger, but then send it to custom shop for barell/action/trigger/bevel work (and I'm thinking of adding xs sights 24/7). I just can't find a mil-spec around here to start the project.

I was gunna make this exact thread last week. I was gunna purchase a Mil-Spec but my local gun shop called 6 big distributors for me to order one and all 6 said they are on back order and couldnt even place an order right now til further notice. He said whenever that happened in the past with springfield, prices went up on them. The shop is good friends of mine and hasnt BS'ed me befor. We'll see what happens.

I ended up buying a Kimber Custom II instead that was in stock at another shop.

There are gunna be some shops who have some in stock that havent sold. But apparently as of right now they are on back order from Springfield if your shop who doesnt have any wants to order one up. Army Navy store in Orange has a couple Springfield GI's, but those were pretty damn basic and not really something ide wanna mod (more of a WWII replica piece), so I passed.

If you are up in the San Francisco Bay Area check out City Arms in Pacifica as they had two or three when I was in there a few weeks ago. I didn't look at them too hard as I already have two SA 1911s.

I was at two different Turner's locations this week and both had the GI and Mil-Spec in stock.

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

Triple AAA in Vallejo had a few last week. I searched Bud's, and they had mostly XD's. Scarey.
