    .357 purchsed in 1983ish question

My dad had purchased a .357 handgun from a gun dealer around 1983ish in San Diego. At that time, they did not require anything except a driver licence, to buy a handgun. He still have all his paperworks. Question is does he need to re-reg the handgun again? If he wants to buy another handgun he needs to take the test right? What does he need to do exactly? Thanks.

Nope. He doesn't need to register anything. He needs the HSC to buy a new handgun, yes.

Beat me to it. Is your dad current or retired military? If so then he is exempt from having to take the HSC.

Thanks for the responses. Very helpful indeed. He loves his .357 He's not in need to buy another handgun any time soon. No he's not in the military.

That doesn't make a lot of sense, however. He doesn't need the HSC to keep his current handgun, but needs to take one for a new handgun. That makes as much sense as the 10 day cooling off period for second (and later purchases).

Are we to think that current firearms are less dangerous than new firearms? Ooops, I can hear the politician's answers to that one.

That's because it wasn't designed to make anyone safe. It was designed to make it more difficult to buy a gun.

Poll taxes or literacy tests is to voting as the HSC test is to owning a handgun...

except poll taxes and literacy tests are illegal.

Don't be talk'n bout me like dat..... "Judge me by my size you do!"

And for that fact both feelings and safety are figments of imagination. Each ranking much lower than faith or truth.
