So, this is my second P226 chambered in .40sw and it has the same problem. I think it might have something to do with 10 round magazines. I've tested numerous ones, all Sig mags and they all seem to have a hard time locking into the gun when put at max capacity. Its also noticeably difficult to put in the last 10th round in the magazine. It doesn't have this problem at all when I load it up with .357SIG.

I use an HKS speedloader when loading the mags. I've noticed that towards the end when the magazine nears capacity, if you simultaneously push down on the HKS lever and push down on the cartridge (forward of the feed lips) with your other thumb, you can push the cartridges down further than if you were just loading normally with your thumbs... you can actually sort of feel/hear a "click", almost as if something was binding and finally gave way under the pressure. Never really gave it much thought until I read your post. Don't baby it, give it some good pressure as you're inserting cartridges. Anyway, once you do that, you can load the full 10 rounds and still have enough play in the mag to insert a fully-loaded one into the mag well with the slide closed. I do it all the time; and most importantly, have never had a malf in my Sigs (so whatever is "binding" and giving under the extra pressure does not affect performance).Last edited by Bullwinkle; 08-24-2010, 11:31 AM.John

If they're new then they probably need to be broken in. I've never had anything beyond 10 rounds, but when I got my new Sig mags I had to keep them loaded up and rotated in and out of the gun for a week or so (plus a range trip or 2) before it got any easier. And yes, I used an Uplula loader.WTS all BNIB: Colt S70 Repro, HK45c, Gen4 G19Comment

Yep. Know exactly what you are talking about. 357SIG works fine .40S&W tenth round very difficult but doable. Must have something to do with the area of the bottleneck and the follower but I really haven't look into it that closely.Jim

Change out the followers with the twelve round mag followers.
Guns for sale. Gun Parts for Sig Sauer, Heckler & Koch, AR-15, Glock, 1911 parts. Your top gun supply superstore!
They do not have the long pointed plastic tip inside where the spring sits.
I have done this and it has given me enough room for 10 and a half rounds in the mag.
Thus making it very easy to load the tenth round and still legal.Comment

All the ten rounders for my P226 in .40 tend to be very tight trying to get that last round in. I've not experienced any issue with the mags not seating properly in the gun.I've had them for a couple of years now and they've all been run through the gun many times.
The OEM 12 rounders that I bought while still a LEO load and function flawlessly.

Especially when new, getting the 10th round in the P226 .40 mags can be tough. It seems that as teh mags break in it gets a little easier, but there is still a noticeable difference when you get to the last round.
As far as inserting the mag in the gun when full, I can't say I've really seen that problem. When I insert a full mag into the gun when there is a round in the chamber it seems like it takes a firm push to seat and lock the mag. I notice that mostly when I'm topping off the gun off line. But, when I'm doing reloading drills I don't notice a problem.Dave

When I had a Sig 226 I had the same problem doing tactical reloads. If the slide is forward and you have a full 10 round mag, it is very hard to get the magazine to lock in.
If you take the mags apart the follower has a long tail in the middle. If you file it down just a bit, it will give you a bit more room to load the 10th round and it will take care of the other problem. Just be sure you don't remove enough material to allow an 11th round.Comment

Hah, same here, originally I thought it was my grips, but that definitely wasn't the case. With new mags, I have to slap it in really hard, beyond normal means just to ensure it's in all the way.Comment
