    Draco question

I understand why one needs a mag lock for import or transfer as it makes the gun single shot with the sled magazine, but why do I need to keep the mag lock after the transfer?

Next question, why can't I use my 30 round magazines that I owned since I was a wee little boy?

I understand these things when it comes to a rifle but was not aware of the rules concerning hand guns.

    Thanks

Specifically, the Draco (semi auto handgun) has a magazine well outside of the grip. With a detachable magazine, that makes it an assault weapon in CA.

Hey Mach. Cant he put a stock and pin a barrel extension to it and turn it into a rifle? It would be like a poor mans krink. I have been contemplating this, but looking for a yugo or bulgarian krink for now. Thanks

Once registered as a pistol, it is, in the eyes of the law forever a pistol.

So no, I'm pretty sure you try and turn that into a rifle you'd get your day in court.

First off, that is pure awesome.
But I thought once it's registered as a pistol it has to stay that way?

            I'm probably confused as usual.

Im pretty sure you can convert a pistol into a rifle and it will always be registered as a pistol but you CANNOT convert a rifle into a pistol. And if you ever put a stock on any handgun, you better make sure you have the 16" minimum barrel length or else its an SBR and will be illegal.

This is the first I've heard of this, are you sure you haven't conflated pistol and rifle? Can you show CPC for this or is this a Federal Reg? A quick search turned up nothing, but I may not be using the correct search terms.

Edit: I did some additional searching, bdsmchs covers part of it here. But I found what I was really looking for, which is the ATF letter that lays it out, in the last two paragraphs.

                  BATFE NFA branch:
It is legal to make a handgun into a rifle.
No paperwork is needed to do so.
Once it is made into a rifle, it is now a rifle.
After it is made into a rifle and you want to turn in back into a handgun, you will need to get BATFE approval to make a SBR prior to doing so.
