    HSC Exemptions

Does a CA POST Basic certification count towards a PC 832 certification exemption for HSC?

Long story short, dealer said because I'm:

    1. Not a LEO.
    2. Do not possess an actual PC 832 certificate
    3. The certificate I do have does not specifically state 832 completion.

I have to take the HSC.

    Yes/No?

How is the dealer supposed to document an exemption if you don't possess an actual certificate? What happened to it?

He really can't just take your word for it.

A POST Basic Certification, that you could use for employment as a LEO or Level I Reserve, includes PC 832 Arrest & Firearms. Your dealer should have known that.

          Also, from:http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/hscman.pdf,
"Any person who has successfully completed the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) 'Arrest and Firearms' training, or greater POST training which includes 'Arrest and Firearms.'"

My POST certificate also doesn't indicate the "Arrest & Firearms" portion but that training was in there. I'll agree the dealer needs to know or find out what is included in a POST certificate rather than merely erring by being too cautious and denying the POST certificate.

Either try to educate the dealer, perhaps with a table of contents from the study binders (something the dealer can copy for his DROS files), or merely shop elsewhere. Otherwise, pay the additional bucks, take and pass the HSC test.

Just to clarify, I don't need to bring a copy of my POST cert to buy a gun, just my current cop i.d.

Above two answers were what I was looking for, thanks for the quick replies.

I'll try again with the dealer tomorrow and see whether or not I can convince them.
