    W. German SIG P220 grip swap with slim grips

I'm not 100% sure whether the older P220 model(pictured) will be able to have it's current grips swapped out to the newer slim grips. I would like to hear what everyone here knows and has experienced. Thanks all!

My P220 looks like this. Same grips and all.

These are the grips I'm thinking of going to.

I believe P220's are consistent through all years. Grips from a newer model should fit on an older model and vice versa.

They will and they won't fit. They will fit the frame fine but you will need to change your hammer strut and mainspring seat to a newer one. A W. German P220 will have the old style long hammer strut and metal mainspring seat whereas all the newer models have a short hammer strut with plastic mainspring seat.

This makes a dimensional difference inside the grips. You could possibly Dremel the inside of the slim grips to fit your old hammer strut/mainspring seat but I tried once and it didn't work but that could have been me. Changing to the new hammer strut/mainspring is easy and I actually prefer it to the old style but some would say not to mess with a P220 as old as the one you have.

GKO is 100% correct. I had a P220 just like yours and ordered a set of slim grips. They did not fit due to the older mainspring assembly. I would keep those original grips. Many folks (myself included) prefer those old-style checkered grips.

Agree with elberettas on keeping the old style checkered grips as they can be hard to find. I wish they kept that checkered pattern across all their grip shapes through the years. Some of the various stippling ones they came out with were way too smooth. The current ones aren't bad but they feel like sandpaper.

Thanks fellas! Especially GKO and elberettas.

I don't mind the checkered grips but you know how we gotta accessorize our toys.

Will those grips go on without modification and fit the generation P220 I have?
