Hey guys, I have a glock 17 that I'm using primarily for target action shooting and I was wondering, what is you favorite front sights to use that aren't too big and don't obscure the target too much? I do want a fiber optic and I was looking at HiViz. So, what do you all use?

Your fav sights for IDPA/GSSF

I use the stock sights on my G17 for GSSF, I have a G34 w/Sevigny comp. sights installed and just hate them.
I'm thinking I should have gone w/the narrow rear setup but just dont compete as much as I used to. That being said I might still swap them out.Last edited by Ed_Hazard; 08-18-2010, 8:54 AM.Originally Posted by Sic Boy

Depends on what you plan to use them for. Dawson F/O front sight with Dawson, Heinie or Warren Tactical rear seem to be very popular combinations with the IDPA/USPSA crowds. The Dawson front sights are nice bcs you can choose from multiple widths and heights to match your rear. I use the narrower front sight with a Heinie rear on my glock and like that combination a lot. The F/O front is great outdoors but in low light it looks just like a black front sight, so you may want something with tritium on a defense gun.Hey guys, I have a glock 17 that I'm using primarily for target action shooting and I was wondering, what is you favorite front sights to use that aren't too big and don't obscure the target too much? I use the same sights that I have on my defensive handguns. As much as possible, I like to have the same sight picture. For me, it's the XS sights. Some people love them, some hate them. I find that they seem to work well in just about all lighting possiblities.RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.Comment

+1. That is what we run on both of my wife's competition G34s. I also run something similar on my XD45 Tactical, except that I chose a Heinie Ledge rear sight instead of the SlantPro. The Ledge has a notch cut in the front of it for hooking on something during one-handed slide manipulations.
If you want adjustable sights without having to cut into your slide, look at the Dawson rear adjustables combined with a fiber optic front.
Note that these setups are intended for competition and day use. I wouldn't run a FO front sight in a tactical environment due to the likelihood of cracking the FO tube and it falling out. The tubes are very easy to replace, but you still don't want it disappearing in the middle of a fight. My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment
