    Glock 20 or 20C comments

Anyone own either model, how is the recoil and muzzle rise? Is there low flash ammo for night shooting available for the 20C.

Depends if you're a girlie man, then get the compensated model.

the 20 doesn't have as much pop as people give it credit for. with a little practice you can get the sights back on target as fast as almost any other of Glock's offerings. The 20C was a no go for me because I figured the flash through the ports would be blinding. turns out when I got to shoot them both in the dark the effect of the muzzle flash was about the same. the actual flash from the 20c may have been greater but the result for the follow up shot was the same for me (i couldn't see). what was more surprising was that the compensator didn't seem to have much effect on the muzzle flip either. i hear though that where it does have an effect is on muzzle velocity. of course your mileage may vary.
-Guide: "if your gonna try and shoot a bear with that thing you better file down the front sight."
-Hunter: "why, so i get a quicker draw from my holster?"
-Guide: "no, so it will hurt a little less when the bear takes it from you and shoves it up your *****!"

My advice would be to get a Glock 21. You then buy a 10mm barrel for it. Can't buy a Glock 20 and get .45acp barrel.

g20 feels like a strong 45acp in a 1911. muzzle rise depends on the load. ive got some light loads that i can shoot pretty fast and stay on target with really easily. ive also got some stuff from double tap thats got a ton of punch and im not so fast with accurate follow up shots. not yet at least...

I bought my 20 a few months ago and opted against ports because they weren't necessary unless doing competition shooting. I use mine for target/hunting purposes and follow ups aren't bad at all. The comp may help with the follow ups but it's one more thing to get gummed up when in the field so I decided to not bother.

I'm not a ported fan at all. Why push fire and gasses straight up into your eyesight? If you can't handle the round, downsize. Of course others disagree but that's why we have choices. That said, I was expecting the G20 to be some massive recoil monster (which honestly it can be with certain ammo like the 200 grain semi wad cutter from Double Tap). It's actually quite manageable even with most stout loads. Get the standard G20 and get a 22 lb recoil spring and steel guide rod. The ISMI springs work very well and are, IMO, the best aftermarket springs for Glocks. Here's a good one:

Here's a good stainless captured guide rod for the above spring:

Welcome to the world of 10mm. You're gonna wish ammo is cheaper but it'll quickly turn into your favorite pistol.

I'd advise you to get the 20. Bear in mind, I don't care for comp'd handguns, personally.

+1 to Sumdood's advice... get the .45acp version and buy a 10mm barrel for it.

I don't recommend getting the 45 version simply because the breach face on the 45 is larger than 10mm and I've read about some problems. If you're using the gun for any type of self defense, only get the caliber which the gun was made in. Also, the Glock 20 slide is actually heavier and beefier than the Glock 21 slide to handle the stouter 10mm caliber. This is partly why the Glock 20 is so nice to shoot. So, point again don't convert a 45. Just get the 10mm.

the muzzle rise from my glock 20 is not much worse than my glock 23 shooting 40sw. my practice load is not the hottest so it can certainly be uncomfortable for some one given the right ammo. with proper grip on the gun, no compensation is needed for me. i dont like the idea of ports reducing my projectile velocity. loses the point of shooting the mighty 10mm. many people complain about the grip size but i dont shoot one handed often with this so a 2-handed grip feels very comfortable. my hands are probably pretty average sized so i think it should be the same for most people. getting the 21 and conversion barrel is fine if you shoot a lot of 45 but it doesnt make sense to me since 45 is hard to find and expensive. why convert from one expensive round for another? conversion barrels are only good for practice in my mind since reliability is reduced. glock 20 would be better to convert to 40sw for practice since ammo cost is less and there is no need for new magazines. with a 6 inch 10mm barrel, the glock 20 is a long range beast.

i have a G29 and G20. i reload 10mm. 135gr 1850fps. 155gr 1720fps. G29 wants to jump out of my hands with my hot loads. with G20, the recoil isn't that bad. my follow up shot is a little quicker than the G29.

i have not shot G20C before so i can't say much about that. however, i have shot G23C many times. during the say, you don't really notice the flame. during the nite, it tends to blind your sight for couple of seconds before it comes back. for that reason, i do not get a comp for any of my guns. i would rather deal with the recoil and be able to see than have a little bit quicker followup shot and lose vision for a few seconds.
I am offically a gun nut!!!!!

If you want to know what a real 10mm should feel, get a box of DoubleTap or CorBon.

The Winchester and Remington ammo out there are kind of weak, almost .40 SW like.
The bullets with my name on it I'm not worried about, it's the "To whom it may concern" ones I'm worried about.
