    Handgun carry

I know here in Ca there are not too many people with a CCW. Most people enjoy their guns at the range on weekends or just collect.

As an LEO I carry 24/7 on and off duty. I was talking to my friends at work about this subject and want same input......

Do You think the interest in handguns would be different than it is now if people could carry?

Yes, more people would own guns if they could carry.
Those who currently own guns, might own more or different guns if they could carry.

I don't think that the number of people who own guns would grow significantly.

The sales of handguns would go up briefly just after a shall-issue law goes into effect as people bought extra carry guns.

I believe so. I've read on these forums that alot of folks don't even apply because they think they can't get a permit in their county. I my wife and I carry now because we can and we never even owned handguns before moving to Cali. We own several and plan to purchase more.

Only initially from a shall issue stance, but then it would taper off. Most people are more interested in golf than shooting.

i dont think it would go up much. maybe a little. the only people who are interested in CCW are people who already own guns. if you have never owned a gun, jumping right into your first gun for CCW is quite a leap. that said, i think gun stores would sell more subcompacts but mostly to current gun owners.

I think interest/handgun ownership would go up by about 1/3.

I think a lot of people who think they have good carry guns now would find out that a smaller, thinner, lighter pistol would get carried more often, so would buy another pistol. Also a lot of people that aren't pistol shooter's now would take an interest, especially after taking the ccw training courses and possibly get hooked on the hobby.

So yes, I think we would see a significant increase in handgun sales.

Of course interest in guns in CA would increase. And so would the number of idiots out there

Oh, no - the number/proportion of idiots is fairly constant.

No. At least not to any significant degree.

Well i do not really know, but i was able to speak to an officer who does range qualifications and he was telling me about girls who get their ccw's. And he was saying that it is less than 10% of all applicants , which is sad, because he said usually for girls it is much easier than for guys, because they just always have an easier time with their 'cause'.

But anyway, he said that there should be WAY more girls applying, with stalkers and psycho ex's but there just are not. And he also said that lots of the girls, like 50% who do apply will fail the shooting test, which is super easy and only like 15 shots. So anyway, he did not think it was the law that was stopping girls from applying but something else. Sad.

                            +1 on this quote.

In my own humble opinion, everyone on this forum would carry, however the increase in interest would be minimal; primarily due to people that will carry for personal safety reasons. CA is a very liberal state and for each person that likes guns, there are two that hate them.

Well I believe that the ratio of (legal) carry/non-carry is much higher the farther north you go. Head into the Rod & Gun clubs locally and there are quite a few people that exercise their rights daily. Of course this is all possible because of a gun friendly law enforcement.
I think that with more widespread education about legal carry rights, you will have more acceptance of the practice and more people taking an interest in carry.
