My problem Sig

Hello all, I have a Sig 220 that I love. It has been my favorite hand gun for a while, but now I am having problems with it. The pistol ran great and ate everything I fed it with the exeption of Independce ammo. I got a action enhancement service from Sig about 6 months back and when it was returned the slide would not lock back. I replaced the magazine springs and still did not fix the problem. After contacting Sig they sent me a new slide lock. I tried it and it still did not fix the problem. They said to send it back, next day air on my dime and it returned back to me 4 weeks later only to have the same problem. They said they replaced the slide lock and adjusted the slide lock spring. I am ready to sell it. I should have never sent it in for the action enhancement in the first place. What to do now?????

Probably the #1 or #2 cause of this problem with Sigs is the shooter.

Because of the placement of the slide-stop on the Classic Sigs, the shooter has to be sure their thumbs are not putting any weight on the slide-stop. Even a little pressure on it will be enough to over come the pressure from the mag spring and cause the gun to fail to lock open.

So, where are your thumbs?

You should inspect the mechanism carefuly to try and understand why it doesn't lock. Using an empty mag check the operation by cycling the action by hand.

I had the same problem. Only to realize it was my fault. Sigs do not like thumbs forward grip cuz it will block the slide lock from engaging. I have to use a different handgun grip when i shoot the sig. The one where you interlock your thumbs and pull down the top thumb.

When it came back the first time it would not lock back by hand. It should have never left the shop. They did test fire it because I clean it every time I shoot it and it came back dirty. QC is not what it use to be. Thumb placement is not the issue. I had two friends shoot it and the result was the same. Thanks for the imput, just looking for an answer. Lemon???

Sorry about your once beloved SIG that turned sour.
I could not think of any other solution so I recommend the following:

1. If you still plan on having your P220 repaired, check with: http://www.grayguns.com/
They've done numerous miracles on SIGs.

2. If you plan to sell it, do a full disassemble and sell them as parts (the frame needs to go through an FFL). If you sell your problematic SIG to someone else, I bet the buyer will come back at you. Once you raise enough money selling the parts, buy a NIB or CPO SIG P220.

Prob Sig??

I have owned four Sigs. I have shot five. I still own two. I have only had two problems. Both were me. One, i had failed to lube it properly so the slide was not moving freely so it was short stroking and not feeding a round. The second problem was the slide not locking open. I found that my thumbs were in fact getting in the way of the slide lock. I replaced the mag springs to be sure and adjusted my grip just a bit and that solved the problem.

Seriously though, have another Gunsmith take a look at it. I have a very hard time believing that Sig missed this problem twice before it went out the door. But anything is possible.

Take a video of you plus others shooting it, just to document why the slide does not lock back & post it on SIG forum. There is a Sig rep on there. Maybe they can help ID the issue better.

Call Grayguns up & talk to them. Maybe they can help. Did you recoat the gun with Nitron? Maybe the specs is out of sync. Good luck!

I am a dumb a**. Just got back from the range and with a hold away from the slide release it runs fine. I apologize for bad mouthing Sig, it was my fault all along.
