    Colt SAA 1st, #5868

I have a Colt SAA serial number 5868, and I am trying to get as close a link to Custer and the 7th Cavalry as possible. I have a Kopek letter stating it is in the prime custer range, but I am sort of stalling out from there.
Does anyone know of an unusual source I could use to help me pin something down? Something like a site of old letters from cavalry men, or anything?
    Thanks in advance.

    Try the Colt Archive Service.

You should be able to get a letter with at least the date of manufacture and to whom it was originally shipped. Costs a little -- but worth it for a collector's piece.

For a SAA revolver that EARLY a Factory Letter is a MUST. If it ended up
with someone famous etc it could really boost the value. Pete
