    Walther P99 will not fire....

Yesterday I received a P99AS in trade from a fellow Calgunner and upon receipt the pistol would not fire. My local FFL and I have looked at the Walther and can not figure out what is wrong with it, perhaps you have a suggestion?

Symptom: when the pistol is cocked the striker-indicator is visible as "cocked" but when the trigger is pulled it simply de-cocks the striker. There is no "click" of the firing pin and the weapon will not "fire." This Is the same in DA or SA.

Does anyone have experience with this? I've got a gunsmith looking into it sometime this week, but I sure would like to know I'm not the only one who's had this problem.

Were you aware of this issue before the trade took place with the other calgunner? I would talk him/her and see whats up.

I had a similar problem with an early version of the P99 (pre-AS). I had to ship it back to the factory. Smith and Wesson does the warranty work on them. They said it had something to do with the "wrong size cam" ?!? 5000+ rounds later, all is still good.

only thing I can think of is maybe the mag check is not engaged when the mag is in? I think that gun wont fire without a mag. but....thats all I can come up with.

P99s don't have mag disconnects. At least mine doesn't.

So was it a pre-existing condition or something new?

Not really what the thread is about man. I'm regretting even having mentioned that I got it from a Calgunner, who by the way is a good dude and is with me 100% on this issue.

I wasn't talking about burning the guy who sold you the gun. I was more concerned if the condition was pre-existing like if it went back to the manufacturer or another smith for repairs and such. That would give you a clue on what's the issue.

My bad. I misinterpreted your post and should have given you the benefit of the doubt.

As for pre-existing, the seller says it was fine before shipping and he has no knowledge of it ever having been an issue with this weapon.

We're cool But man, that is weird that it now malfunctions after shipping it. Must have been a bumpy ride to your place Did you at least field strip, eye check everything, and run the usual paces like cocking it mutliple times?

I have a fairly new P99QA and it has been flawless.

Unless you can provide detailed pics for everyone to see, I would suggest taking it to a reliable gunsmith and maybe work something out with the fellow Calgunner

I truly hope this issue works out for you, I've always considered Getting a P99 in the near future and reading things like this makes me kinda nervous if I ever bought one

Absolutely. With and without magazine, with and without snap-caps, etc etc. My FFL and I actually went a little further than field-stripping in hopes of seeing something obvious.

I'll keep y'all posted. A gunsmith is looking at it this week. Worst-case scenario is that it goes back to Smith or Walther for repairs.

OK, stupid question, but did you take apart the firing pin housing? Any junk in there? When mine was messed up, I remember the striker cocked indicator would stick out a hair more as I pulled the trigger. The firing pin would just not drop. It was almost like it was just about there, but could not hit whatever threshold was needed to drop the pin. The problem appeared after 200-300 rounds. Since it was fixed, I've had no issues of it going bang for at least 5000+ rounds.

You have described exactly what's happening here. We disassembled the striker housing and found no crud or broken pieces though.

UPDATE: Apparently there's a sear pin that's missing. Missing as in gone, so the striker is not being actuated. I'm calling Smith & Wesson for an RA now.
