    It's done...

FNP-45 Tactical ordered and shipped from Botach Tactical to a local FFL. I'll start the DROS once I get my new DL in the mail. Can't wait! Will update with pics and first impressions once I get it.

I'll also be picking up a 10/22 if the price is right, but the FNP is what I'm most eager for.

A combination of things. When I was first looking at handguns to get when moving out here (back when I was interviewed in November) I saw the FNP-45 and said hey, that looks nice. The Tactical came out 4 months later has has some wonderful upgrades to it. Threaded barrel, rail on the slide for mounting a red dot, etc.

Mostly? It was due to getting a .45 that wasn't so light in the capacity department. Most .45 handguns I've seen hold 10 rounds or less.

About $930, one of the new black models too. Amazingly enough, from Botach. I've read the stories and did it over the phone after seeing one show up on Gunbroker.

This will be the first time I've ever been in snow more than a day or two. But here's the beauty of working at a job that gives me a laptop and lets me work from home...a 25 mile drive to work means I call the boss and say "roads are out, I'm working from home today"!

Honestly, driving around in snow was kinda fun. But then I had an AWD car.

Ok, to keep you all waiting until Monday evening, here's some pics of my 10/22:

Sorry for the long delay everyone. Work's been kicking my *** (just today I pulled an 11 hour shift). But here are the pics, as promised. Apologies for the graininess, all I have is the 5MP camera on my Droid.

We start with the case. It's a very nice 1000D Cordura Nylon affair, made by Eagle (!) and emblazoned with the FNH logo on the outside. The pocket contains the details, of which I blurred out as it has the serial on it.

We open the case and this is what the inside looks like...

The case is empty, you'll see the contents next. The large, rectangular pouch contains the accessories in two plastic boxes that contain a holder for the rail covering and two additional rail coverings for non-Docter or Trijicon sights (the Tactical can take Docter, Trijicon, C-More or FNH sights). It also contains hex wrenches and screws. Below that are two magazine pouches, they hold magazines (duh) and the larger pouch below that is the cable lock pouch. This can also be used to hold a suppressor.

Here's everything within the case. From top to bottom, going left to right:
Packet containing test cartridge along with handgun info.
                              Manual
3 interchangeable backstraps (one has the same pattern on the gun, other two are different, main difference is thickness between those of same pattern)
                              Two accessory boxes
Cable lock, which I have had so much use for
3 15 round magazines (lemme tell you, loading 15 rounds of .45 is a major PITA)
                              The handgun itself

To give you an idea of just how big this handgun is...

And of course, where would we be without the range report...one full mag at a target at 20m.

My first impressions was "That's a big gun!" but I held it and instantly fell in love. It's a beast. I'm still trying to get proper holding procedure on it.

I did have several jams (due to poor ejects) and double-feeds, but that's very much likely due to A) Crappy ammo (Magtech) and B) Not good enough cleaning/lube.

The trigger has a really hard pull in single-action mode, but in DA mode it glides right until it hits the point where the hammer releases. When the hammer drops, there's very little motion in the gun.
