Hey guys i recently recieved my first handgun. A new ruger sr9 and i think there may be something wrong with it. For some reason whenever i put the magazine in and pull the slide back the round just gets stuck and the slide wont close til i smack the bottom of the magazine. So far ive tried both regular WWB and some PDX1 jhp and same thing happens with both. Anybody ever had this happen to them?

thanks for the quick reply . At first i had the mag with 9 rounds then i started trying with one and same thing was happening. I also just noticed that if i give the magazine i good smack or two with my palm that it will load the round when i pull the slide, but im not sure if thats healthy for the gun.Comment

It's a tool, don't be bashful with it.There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Is it related to the slide lock maybe? Is the slide locking back? Is the the gun going part way into battery?"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." B.Franklin,1759Comment

Is this gun brand new? Have you fired any rounds out of it or did this just start happening?
I would try locking the slide open without a magazine in. Then insert a mag and drop the slide release and see if it takes a round off the top of the mag ok.
The only thing I can relate to this is when I first got my Ruger P95 it was very tightly put together, which suprised me for low cost gun. If your gun is new maybe the racking the slide back and forth is upseting things somehow. If the gun shoots try firing a few hundred rds. to break in(if new) and if it still does this, send it back to Ruger. If the gun just started doing this send it back to Ruger. they're cool to deal with. They have a lot riding on the success of this pistol so I'm sure they'll fix you up.

You are possibly not letting the slide slam home. You're supposed to rack that sucker back all the way and then let it fly.|

I agree. If the slide is not forcefully moving forward that can happen. Another thought is that the magazine is not fully seeded. I noticed on the SR9's sometimes you will think the mag is in when it is not. When you load the mag give it a whack before you release the slide.+1 on this. Pull the slide to the rear and then let go, dont ride her.

Thanks everyone for the replies just got back from the range and shot 200 rounds flawlessly. Its an awesome shooter i guess i was being to gentle with her. So far havent had any rounds get stuck so i guess everythings ok and i was being too paranoid. Now to try to find a range near LA where i can shoot some jhp's to see how they cycle

The one thing you always want to be sure of is the mag being all the way in. When I first got my SR9 I was'nt making sure the mag was in and had a few drop outs
now I make sure that suckers in. I also have 2 Ruger P94s and you definitely have to give them a good smack. Also glad to hear it shot well and now you have to save up some money for the SR9c. Have fun and enjoy your new Ruger. Redhemi
