    what does your PD carry?

I'm always interested in what pistols departments (PD or SO) issue their officers. I figure if its good enough for LE work its probably good enough for me (HD, plinking at the range).
At my work I come into contact with lots of SFPD and SFSO. I've always thought it strange that the PD caries .40 Sigs and the SO has .40 Glock 22s. Seems to me it would save money to standardize but thats just me.
I've seen that CHP and San Mateo SO still have S&W 4006 pistols. I don't think they make these anymore, to bad they were good guns (I have a 4013).
So tell me what you local PD carries.

I always ask SFPD how they like their Sigs. Encountered an SF sheriff the other day who was carrying a Glock 17. Thought that was odd...

PD of the city I live in issues Glocks. County SD is pretty much whatever the deputy wants to carry within the general guidelines. I see Sigs and Glocks mainly, I think the issue is Glock.

SFSD and SFPD are two completely different organizations with each agency having very, very little institutional interest in what the other does.

CHP has an updated version of the (IMHO bad) 4006 pistol, the 4006 TSW.

CoCo County is Sig P226 .40SW
Walnut Creek is Sig P220 or P229 .40SW
            Concord is S&W M&P .40SW

I think I see glocks, 92fs's and sigs most commonly for LAPD/LACSD/etc.

I've seen SLO PD with H&Ks. I haven't seen any other duty weapons, but the last time I got pulled over I was more preoccupied with explaining that my seatbelt had been on for more than the last 2 minutes .

I only brought up the SFPD/SO thing because SF is both a city and a county. The officers are trained together at the same academy. Many people (taxpayers) have for years questioned why they even have both. I have always thought that the city & county of SF could get a better deal on the guns and holsters if they bought the same for both. A few years ago the PD switched from Beretta 96 (have 2!) to the sigs and the holsters and mag pouches cost them a fortune!
I've heard that Glock has roughly 50% of the LE market.

Berettas or glocks in .45 caliber is what the Tustin PD carries.

I thought so too, and for the most part I agree... but then I realized a couple problems with that theory, one of which is that more often than not, it isn't the officers on the street making the purchasing decisions, but a pencil-pushing bureaucrat working under pressure from a number of sources, not the least of which is budgetary constraints. One would hope that he has his fellow officers' best interest at heart, and that he too had some hard experience in his earlier years, but often times "performance" isn't the sole factor in the decision-making process, so they end up with a weapon that is "good enough" rather than optimal.

If you want to determine which duty weapons are the best, you need to find the departments/agencies where cost doesn't enter into the equation (if you can), who put their weapon candidates through a rigorous series of tests based on certain criteria deemed important by the department. You can pretty much tell who the front-runners are when marketing and ultra-low-pricing-just-so-we-can-say-someone-uses-our-pistols don't come into play.

It also shows that there is no single "best" pistol out there. If all departments had the same set of criteria, it stands to reason that the same pistol would win every time. Obviously each department's criteria is different or else there's a fair amount of bias/subjectivity coming into play... or both.

Roseville PD carries Glock 22 AFAIK.
