I recently purchased a used Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 Operator (with the full rail) and have been wondering what kind of ammo to use for home defense. For target a standard 230 gr FMJ ball round is fine, but for home defense I would need something more. A JHP round makes sense but I have heard rumors that springfield 1911's, and especially the GI and Mil-Spec models, do not feed reliably with many JHP rounds.
Has anyone had decent experience with JHP's or other defense rounds in a SA 1911? If not what type of round do you suggest? Feedback regarding my gun model would be especially appreciated.
Thanks!
