    Having trouble with new glock

Hey guys I'm Hoping someone can help me out with this....

I got a new glock about 20 days ago. I have not fired it yet(haven't had the chance to take it to the range yet) so I was using some snap caps with it and noticed that when I rack the slide and put a round In the chamber, it won't eject that round when I pull the slide back again. The snap cap just gets stuck so I have to lock the slide back and drop the
    Mag. Is this normal?

How old are the snap caps? Sometimes they can get worn and pretty chewed up.

I'm not sure I bought them the same day I picked up my gun.

Have you tried loading a live round and racking the slide?

Yes I have tried it with a live round as well and the same thing happens. It's a glock 17, if that helps.

I wouldn't take snap caps as a serious indicator of a gun's performance. I've tried them in the past and they got destroyed by a 1911.

Take it to the range and put cartridges through it. No sense in worrying about it until actually try it, right?

Are you new to handguns, or do you already own another automatic?

if you are new to guns, are you quickly racking the slide, or slowly doing it? It would seem unusual for an extraction issue of that sort with a brand new Glock.

Word, if anything when you rack the slide the round should fly out of there like no other.

It might be that I'm not pulling the slide back fast enough. I'm gonna try it again in the morning and test it out at the range. Thanks for the fast responses guys! I appreciate it.

                          1. I can only guess it doesn't go fully into battery, and the extractor doesn't grab a hold of the rim. The flat top part of the barrel is supposed to be flush with the slide top after the slide slams forward (as propelled by the recoil spring).

Rack it a whole bunch of times, all the way back and letting it slam forward. Try the same with a partially loaded mag. Top surface flush? Does the extractor stick out a bit from the side of the slide right behind the ejection port?

                          2. What kind of ammo is this, and are you absolutely sure it's 9x19 Parabellum / Luger?

                          3. Please point it in a safe direction during these and future manipulations.

Try putting the snap cap in the mag with the slide locked open. Then release the slide lock so it slams the round in. This will make sure that the round is properly seated. then rack the slide back faster then before.

Did you do a proper cleaning/oiling when you got it?

I'm using 9mm Luger +p 124gr Speer gold dot. I just noticed it's the short barrel version...
