The XDM seems like a real contender - are they in testing by DOJCA for eventual adding to the "Safe Gun List"? Do 10 round mags make them legal yet in CA? Has anyone here shot one? The compact 9mm version sure looks like a good concealed carry possibility.

From what I understand, they will not be added to the roster for the lack of a magazine safety. They can however be found via PPT.

They'll never make it onto the roster, no magazine disconnect safety or "idiot proof" can't-miss-it loaded chamber indicator. If you can fine one for sale (PPT) with 10 round mags, go for it. You're probably not going to find too many new guns added to the roster.

SA does not make and does not intend to make 10-round magazines for this particular weapon. At least that's what their marketing people have stated in emails in the past.

If someone wants to sell one privately you can buy it, but you or they will have to permanently modify the standard magazines to hold only 10 rounds.

As for the roster, SA has said they do not intend to submit the gun to CADOJ for review. It doesn't have the necessary features to get on the list, and the main point of the weapon is the very high capacity of the magazines, so they don't intend to make a modified version for California. This is, of course, only as good as the most recent email request for information sent to them. Who knows, they may change their mind in the future.

On the bright side, some around here are expecting to see the roster invalidated within 18-24 months or so. If you can wait, you may have a shot at one then. I may just line up behind you.

This gun will never be approved by the CADOJ. Nor do they plan on making 10rd mags for them.

Interestingly, the new .45 XDM can use the 10 round mags from a regular XD (but not vice versa). So, you'll still have to get it from PPT, but you can buy factory 10 rounders for it.
