I've used Alan Tanaka and he is indeed one of the best. Also have used all of the following and would recommend without hesitation:
- Jim Hoag (San Fernando Valley)
- King's Gunworks (Glendale)
- Dave's Metal Works (Covina)
Haven't used King's in a long time though. Don't know if they're still as good.NRA Benefactor Life Member

Call Dave's Metal Works in Covina,626-859-0299. Great gunsmith and a great guy to do business with.
Here's some photos of a Colt Commander he just finished for me.

Jim Hoag!
8523 Canoga Ave.
Conoga Park, CA
818-998-1510
He is one of the best - a true gentlemen and one of the "original" combat pistols guys (he shot with Jeff Cooper in Big Bear at the beginning of combat pistol competition).
He did my 1911 and it's beautiful.
