    CCR Experience

Let me start off by saying that Mary and the crew at CCR have always been polite and professional in their communications and the quality of their work is top notch but I feel like it's necessary to share my experiences with the company and the service that they perform for the firearms community. So to start, this refinish is fantastic. They took out the pits/nicks that I put on the frame after 25k rds. The color is consistent throughout and no imperfections to be seen.

That said I encountered challenges with CCR in the customer service department. I am posting this publically and I'm sure that there will be CCR diehards who will chime in and tell me not to complain about it. See below.

If you are dissatisfied, call Brad and give him a chance to fix it. Don't complain here. I've never had a frame done, but all other work has been perfect.
This is to let people know the experience I encountered and what they themselves may encounter. Since my original post I was contacted by a couple of people privately with similar experiences and so I feel that there is a need to share the facts of my situation.

I called CCR sometime in March to inquire about refinishing my Sig P226. I explained that the gun had been tuned by the wonderful folks up at Grayguns and that I would want to make sure that the internals would not be modified to change the characteristics of the trigger. They explained to me that they had experience working with GG tuned sigs and knowing how much CCR participates on the forums here and on calguns I had no doubt that they would return the sig in better quality and condition than what I send in. When asked what the turn around would be, the answer was 6-8 weeks. I ask if I should send in my pistol and the answer was yes. I shipped the gun overnight on March 29th, and it got there the next day.

I inquired into a status of the pistol on April 28th knowing that it would be a bit longer at minimum to complete the work but I was interested in seeing how the refinish impacts the laser etched logos on the slide. Between April 28th and July 9th (when I got the pistol back) numerous emails, PMs, phone calls took place to try and get a status on the pistol.

I received a couple of reasons why it had been delayed including them running out of necessary plating chemicals and the ones received were the wrong ones so the necessary ones would be there by the 22nd of june. It was surprising to hear that a refinishing company would run out of a fundamental ingredient needed to support their business but no matter. So in almost 3 months of having my pistol, the necessary chemicals weren't at the shop. A week and a half went by before I contacted them again since I didn't receive a tracking number like I was told. After inquiring again (note, there were no proactive communications to me from the folks at CCR, I had to inquire into each delay) I was then told that they were waiting for the chemical order but it had to ship hazmat and so it was shipped via freight and thus the delay beyond the June 22nd date. They've been doing this for a while so it can't be news to them that the chemicals are controlled and may require ground freight.

Ultimately I got my pistol, almost 15 weeks after the pistol arrived at CCR. On numerous occassions during that time I asked for realistic delivery dates but ended up being strung along week to week. I wasn't expecting it to be done within 6 weeks and would have been happy to wait 12 weeks had I known up front or at some point that it would realistically take that long.

In addition to the delays, my pistol was shipped back without the factory hard case that I sent it out in. No problem as the person who shipped the pistol back to me hadn't been aware that the case went with the gun. On July 11th I pm'd CCR on calguns and mentioned the case, Mary was quick to reply (the 12th) and apologize for the case not having been sent with the gun and that it went out that day. Well this past Monday July 26th came around and I called CCR and spoke with Mary again. She apologized and explained that the case was returned by USPS (had been boxed/shipped priority) as undeliverable even though the address was the same as the pistol. She explained that they resent the pistol on Saturday (assumably July 24th) and so I thanked her and moved on. Well the case finally arrived today Thursday and it had been shipped priority. If it had been shipped priority on Saturday it most likely would have arrived Tuesday based on experience. Knowing that delays happen at USPS I took a look at the packaging. The box didn't look like it had been previously shipped (no other labels, no duplicate shipping labels, no other markings indicating other attempts. Then the kicker... the date on the USPS label, Monday July 26th, the same day that I called.

That is not cool, I would be disappointed as well. Looks great. I agree, if they had just been upfront about the wait; no issue. Thanks for the heads up. I will still consider them, just gotta make sure I am sick of shooting the weapon I send them so I won;t mind the wait as bad.

I have a pistol that SHOULD be on t he way home to me from CCR any day. I would say they have been pretty good to deal with and am sure the end result will be great, BUT I noticed the communication is really good and falls off quickly once the gun has been sent to them. I have tried to contact them all week to ensure they received my payment and havent heard back, even called and got the voicemail 2 days ago without a return call or email or PM so I am just hoping payment got there. I am sure if it hadnt I would have been notified.

yeah... i don't understand fanboys... i had the same running with rifle gear and people will jump on you so fast as if you just talked crap about their mother. anywho, sorry to hear what happened but gun looks good and i hope when attention is brought up about negative experiences (AS THEY SHOULD) that people take it as someone's experience and that companies take note and change for the better.

the sig looks great; the ride was obviously not as smooth as it could have been, or should have been. the P226 does look beautiful....

it should be a requirement that if a company says that it was mis-shipped and had to be reshipped, that they include the original shipping label showing that the attempt was made. I've had a couple people claim that a package was shipped to the wrong person, or that the shipper couldn't find the address, but as you mentioned, when it is is "reshipped", the packaging looks perfect. As if it had never been shipped in the first place.

There is nothing more frustrating false promises. In my experience, it is always preferable to under-promise and over-deliver. If I can't sit down at a restaurant for an hour, don't tell me the wait is going to be 20 minutes! Give me a chance to relax at the bar and wait patiently or go someplace else. Excuses are generally unwelcome also; except to say "we stubbed our toe on this one and I'm sorry." I wouldn't want to hear about their chemical supply problems or that UPS is somehow to blame.

That said, it sure looks like they do nice work...when they get around to it.

Had a very similar experience a few years ago and posted about it here too.

I know CCR does very high quality work.. but I've always been a little skeptical about certain aspects of the company. I know its a family run business, but they should atleast have the basic necessities to run their company. I know stuff happens, but they could have atleast had the respect and integrity to not give you the run-around. Just be upfront with you. I've tried to ask them questions twice about potential business.. they never got back to me. First time they said they had a family emergency so they couldn't answer or missed my email... second time not even a reply. Both times, didn't even get the answers to my questions at all. It sounds more like the company suffers from organization issues. Perhaps too high volume of work for such a small operation, I don't know - all speculation. I just wanted to know what really made their coating different and which I should choose for my firearm of choice, which leads me to my next issue...

I think what bothered me aside from their lack of replies to me, or hearing them give you such a bad turn-around.. is when another member on Sigforum asked specifics on WHAT really made their proprietary coating better than Cera-coat or any other products that a lot of professional coaters use.. they couldn't really answer. Just threw a bunch of keywords that sounded like marketing hype.. like NANO, high tech, just a lot of vague examples without going into specifics or giving real-world examples. I was genuinely interested in what made their CERA-HIDE product better than everyone else's coating because I was in the mindset of buying an old Sig and getting it refinished. I wanted something that lasted and worked the best. CCR even took indirect jabs on other coating materials that many professionals on that forum used, saying it was not to their standards. I know many didn't see it as an attack.. but the impression that I got was "our stuff is better than the second-rate stuff everyone else uses" - which is fine if they can bring facts to back their claims, I just want the evidence to back these claims.

Again, I'm not doubting their work. As you see in the pics, they do very very VERY fine work - anything you send in there will come back looking far better. It's just some of the business ethics that I'd be questionable about. I'm sure if I ever got around to talking to one of em to get my questions answered, most my doubts will be gone.

Still worth the wait and aggravations, no one does it better. I understand your frustration but they must have hundreds of guns to refinish. Every gun forum I visit has plenty of talk about the great work they do. Good things are not free and are worth the wait. They must spend hours checking on the progress on hundreds of gun daily this can be very counter-productive.

They said my gun was done a few weeks ago and I sent money out on the 20th, I have attempted every day to see if they received the money and shipped my gun home, I have not heard from them since they posted on their thread on the 22nd.

I sent them a couple of PM's in the past couple of weeks inquiring about work.... never heard back from them. I'm kind of glad I didn't now, after seeing this thread.
