    HELP WITH MAKAROV SELECTION PLEASE!

I am looking at getting a Makarov and have several to choose from at my local Gun Shop. Which is the best choice?

1 - Russian 9x18mm adjustable sights IJ-70-18AH Commercial. $100 cheaper then the rest of these!

    2 - Bulgarain 9x18mm

    3 - Romanian 9x18mm

4 - CZ Czech not sure which caliber, I think it is different but looks the same.

All are the same type just different makers.

there are several versions of which all have their supprters and detractors.

it is all persanal with no better/worse comparison.

i have owned the IJ-70-18AH in 9x18 for a number of years.

i like it becasue it is a small, very trustworthy, very accurate handgun with high dollar features at a very reasonable price.

    it come with:

    chrome lined barrel
    sa/da
and very easy and lightning fast field strip and reassble.

    accuracy is astounding and consistant.

some gripe about ammo but i have never had a problem finding federal, wwb (my choice) or hornady xst which is my pp load.

there is lots of cheap russion ammo too but i don't care for it. just personal.

it is one of the weapons listed on my ccw so you could say i bet my life on it

it basically is the russion version of the walther ppk and despite what other may say about the bulgy, cz, or romanian, the IJ-70 was the sidearm of choice.

they were carried by and used on multiple occasions by the entire ussr and eastern block countries military units until they were disbanded.

    my IJ-&70

      Bulgarian Makarov

Yesterday, received my "unissued" Bulgarian Makarov from SOG and took a casual afternoon in SoCal cleaning the weapon from some serious cosmoline. The result of the cleaning was an impresive looking deep blued finish on what was truly an unfired pistol.

Lunch break today saw me at my local range putting 100 rounds of S&B 95 grain FMJ through the pistol with flawless feeding from the SOG supplied magazines, and superior POA accuracy from a bullseye stance at a target distance of 50'. This was despite the standard Makarov sights and my aged eyesight. Before this range visit, I replaced the factory recoil spring and the grips. Now my next "mod" will be improved sights.

This Bulgarian Makarov has earned a place toward the front of my gun safe and I'll be taking it along soon with my trusty 1911 and P226 to the range for a personal "Cold War" reenactment.
