    Black stainless....durable?

Wondering if the black stainless is as durable as stainless or will it rub off or scratch...etc. If its as durable or resistant to wear as SS, then I am very interested in the SA Loaded Combat in black SS.

It will scratch and it will show. You'll also see holster wear over time, assuming you have it holstered more than occasionally. It's still a very durable finish, IMO.

I have a SA loaded in black stainless and have recently scratched it on the front of the slide and it does show. I did polish a small section of it and did get the scratches out but it changed the look of the finish. Instead of the dull black stainless finish it is now a shiny somewhat black finish. I do like the look of the black stainless but I know after awhile I will either polish the whole thing (except dark black area) or get it recoated. Redhemi

I just purchased that SA pistol. Ive got 5 more days . I was wondering the same thing. I bought it used and it has some scratches on the barrel, and I was wondering if I could polish them down a bit. They are quite deep.

Stainless steel shows scratches. Any sort of finish wears.

Combine the two and you get finish wear and scratches. Beautiful finish when brand new. With stainless steel you can at least sort of polish out scratches lightly. No-go with that for black stainless as you'll polish the finish right off.

I have the SA Loaded SS Combat and yes, it can scratch or nick. On top of the slide near the ejection port I have a couple nicks, but overall it is pretty durable and pretty to look at.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

Honest wear is a badge of honor. Holster wear can be a sign you practice with your gun and not just stand in a bay.
