Rger P89 or Taurus PT92 ?

Well I wanted a 9mm again. I narowed it down to either a Ruger p89 or Taurus PT92. Ive owned a PT92 back in the late 1980's but dont know how the new ones are with the newfangled de-cocker thingie.
I do rent a Ruger P89 at a local range every time I go there with my revolvers. Impressed by how tough this little pistol is. Dude it's a rental made in the early 90s and still shoots tight.

Well the Taurus semi-autos have a reputation for being unreliable(deserved or not). With the Ruger you will have ZERO troubles. the things are built like tanks. I know I have run countless rounds through mine with everything from some aenemic handloads that would barely cycle the slide to some very hot +P+ ammunition without a hiccup.

Go for the Taurus pt92

The P-89 was my first handgun, love it to death, it always goes with me to the range. It has eaten every thing I've given it without a hicup, I think it has the best bang for the buck. I don't have any experience with the Taurus, so I can't give an opinion.

If it was going to be my only 9x19 I would go for the Ruger for durability.

I'd definitely choose the Ruger over the Taurus. I have a couple of Tauruses (and a lot more Rugers), and they're good guns, but they're something to buy once your basic needs are covered by rock-solid, unquestionably reliable guns.

A P89 is a rock-solid, reliable gun. A PT92 isn't. They both have good support, but Ruger's is fast, and Taurus' is slow.

my first batch of handgun purchased back in 1993 was a PT92, Glock 19, and a Sig 226. I had taken some lessons and tried many guns at the range (rentals and my instructor's collection). My instructor wanted to get me into a HK P7M8, but I did not like the squeeze cock grip.

Among the guns I tried over and over while deciding what to buy, were the full size 9mm service pistols from all major makers: Sig, Glock, Beretta, S&W, Ruger, HK, etc. Sig was #1, PT92 was #2, Glock 17 was #3. Ruger was last because everytime I tried it, it did not feel right and it jammed repeatedly. this was a rental, but the other 3 were also rentals.

To get to the point, my vote is the PT92. I still have it, still like to shoot it after all these years.

Buy both! I want the PT100/101 in .40S&W, anyone have one? I do admit I've never liked the 40S&W Rugers. I have Ruger 9's and Taurus PT92 in case anyone was wondering. A jamming Ruger P series even if a rental seems odd. Maybe a bad magazine? In my experience, Rugers do very well as range rentals. No cracked frames or slides or anything.

I do admit though the ergonomics of other guns seem better than the P series.
