Help: I'm trying to sell a Beretta 92fs

Help: I'm trying to sell my Beretta 92fs to a friend. How do I release liability for it? What kind of fees to I have to pay to the gun shop? What do I need to know to complete this transaction?

Bring the gun and your friend to your local fun shop. Bring your ID. Their normal rates are around $35 for something like that. Fill out the paperwork they give you and be on your way.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

You don't need to do anything to release liability, or pay anything. You both have to be present at the dealers location to do the private party transfer. Your friend pays for the transfer ($30-$35), and has to have his handgun safety certificate, and proof of residence. Both of you also have to bring valid and current ID's.

Goto a gun shop with you friend and tell them you want to do a PPT (private party transfer) for a handgun. Fees should be $35 at most. Turners charges $30 for the transfer which your friend should pay. Your friend, if legally able to own the pistol, will begin DROS and wait 10 days after all paperwork is complete. He will need to have a Handgun Safety Certificate if he does not have one yet. Will cost him $25 to take the test for the HSC and last for 5 years. He will need proof or residency and a valid CA or Government issued I.D.

You should call the gun shop first, and ask them what their total charge is, as well as checking their hours. This may save extra trips and disappointment.

For instance, Sportsmen's Supply in Campbell charges extra for the safety test, mostly because they just don't want to do PPTs.

Reed's in San Jose is a good place to transfer, but they won't do it on weekends, due to workload.
