    XD40SC VS. M&P40C

There it is as simple as that. Which do most prefer? I already have a XD9 service and M&P40 now and like them both for their own reasons. Which compact do you guys prefer. Glock is not an option as I hate it, so don't bother with the suggestion. There will be less than a 10 cent difference between the 2 (edit: the M&P would be $.08 more but would have the 2 mags extra from the rebate, or $50 less with the cash rebate). The M&P has a 10+1 capacity, the XDSC has a 9+1 with flush mag.

I shot both of these, along with the GLOCK 27, when I was trying to find my carry gun. I didn't like the M&P right off the bat. The ergonomics just felt all wrong to me. The balance just felt too far backward which also made the gun feel top heavy. The abidextrous controls would have been a plus, but I'm right handed, so they don't really help much.

I liked the XD40sc quite a bit more. It felt much more natural to grip and pointed better. The bore axis did seem a bit high for what I like, but it didn't really factor into the recoil much at all. I ended up choosing the GLOCK 27 in the end, but that was after switching back and forth from it and the XD and realizing that the XD trigger safety bit my finger a little more than I liked, and the trigger liked to slap my finger as well.

So, out of the two that you posted I would prefer the XD over the M&P, but the G27 trumps both in terms of ergonomics and shoot-ability.

I have found that XD's are nice guns. Functional & reliable.

But for me, the M&P's are all that + comfortable and easier to shoot.

I have shot XD's several times, and they made it to my top 3 each time I was in the buying process, but the M&P's edged them out each time.

I recommend you rent them, and shoot both side by side to arrive at your own conclusions.

They both shoot pretty much the same. The only real differences are in the ergonomics. I say go to your nearest gun store and fondle each gun and see which feels better in your hands. If it feels better when being handled and dry fired, it's going to feel better shooting.

I love XD...well I love any gun that is functional...but for the sake of carry.. M&P wins by a HUGE MARGIN for me!

They feel about equal as far as comfort, Although the M&P seems like it would carry better. I like the extra safety on the xd as it's a thoughtless process. I don't think I would want a thumb safety added to the m&p because it's one more thing to slow me down. IMO the m&p is uglier though, but that's not gonna matter to someone standing at the business end. lol

                  For a mid sized 40 I would choose a G23.

Between your 2, probably the M&P. I had an XD and the M&P feels better to me. The Glock feels better than the M&P though

Buy once cry once. You have to shoot them for yourself or you will always wonder if you made the wrong decision or worse, realize that you did.

Read my sig. G23 is junk for my hand. I hate the feel of it. Fine weapon with a proven track record, just doesn't fit me right. .40 is just what he has at the moment. I was just trying to get a general idea. may still go with 9mm

Well I got to shoot the m&p since making this thread earlier. Only 50 rds, but it was enough to see that will be my choice if I can get anyone to buy my dammed glock. lol

I prefer 9mm but would go with the M&P.

Yeah I am looking to go to the 9mm as well. Afterall, in the home the 12GA lies in wait for primary defense. 9mm is a more than capable round anyway.
