night sights

So i just took out my vials from the truglos on my glock 23. From the beginning, i did not like them. They got 'foggy' after being cleaned with clp. I did not think much about it, but now, they faded and one vial came unglued.

So my question is, replace vials or...?

go dovetail? IF you did not like night sights then get adjustable hard sights.

I did like the night sights, just they were less than a year old before they started to mess up.

That's odd. Did you buy the Glock new? Cause the night sights shoul last longer...they start to fade but I'd say it should last more than a year.

I recently picked up a used Gen 2 G19. The factory night sights were pretty much dead so I replaced them with a set of Trijicon 3-dot night sights. I really like the Trijicon sights compared to the factory sights.

unless the manufacture will service those for you, you probably want new ones.

I just had Trijicon installed in my G22 yesterday, on sale at the gun vault in mountain view (norcal) for $69+tax installed.

Trijicon will give you 12 years warranty (on green dots, 5Y on orange) and will even claim to repair/replace dots on out-of-warranty sights for "a nominal fee".

I have Meprolights on all my Glocks. I think they are the brightest night sight available for the price and they have a 12 year warranty too. I have some on a gun I bought in 2001 and they aren't as bright as new ones, but they are still bright enough to be seen in darkness and low light conditions.

I like Trijicons too but they are usually a little more expensive and the actual sight dots are smaller and not quite as bright as Meprolights. You should just get a new set of sights. They are easy to install. I just got a Glockmeister sight tool for Glocks and installed 3 pairs of night sights on my Glocks in about 10 minutes for each gun.

See if Truglo will replace your sights...so you can sell off a useable set of sights. Then pick a set of night sights you like and get those.

I would see if you can get the original sights replaced under manufacturers warranty, if there is one, and then the choice of whether to keep those or buy a different type of night sight is up to you.

I replaced the fiber optic front sight on my Ruger 22/45 because the old one broke. In the instructions it warned not to get solvents or cleaners on the light tube because it can adversely affect it. Not sure if that would affect your warranty, if there is one.

With tritium night sights like Meprolight and Trijicon, they are illuminated by gas vials in the sight and are sealed inside, so they are rather impervious to cleaning solvents and lubricants if you get them on the sights. I would recommend tritium sights.

If you want night sights, then go trijicon, otherwise, factory glock sights work really well and aren't very expensive.

Thanks for that. I've been considering a set for my KP90 (the lighting at my range is lousy) but I'm lazy. I usually just scrub the slide with Hoppes & blow it off with Powder Blast. That wouldn't be too great on plastic bits.

You can replace the Tritium vials from the vendor in the OP link, just make sure you measure the vials you have already to make sure they will fit: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...tium+home-made

As you can see in the photos, I can vouch that the green Tritium are nice & bright.
