glock gens?

I hear people talking about 2nd, 3rd generation Glock. What's the difference between them? What distinguish each?

They all shoot the same too so it really comes down to what feels better in your hand. Personally I like the third gen guns but I have a close friend that likes the first gen and dislikes the rest. Are you looking at buying a Glock? If so you will not find a better workhorse IMO.

Also, you may see people referring to a Gen 2.5, these are the compact series that have the finger grooves, but no rail.

Glock are like the ugly pitbulls that guard junkyards. Wouldn't want to have it in the family photo but damn if doesn't do its job and very well too. Its so ugly I now think its kinda cute . Kind of a Disney's Quasimoto if you will. In the end you can't help but love it.

Since we're on the subject I've heard you can send an early generation 1 or 2 pistol to Glock in Atlanta and get it upgraded to the latest generation for $60 or so, still true? I don't know whether they change or duplicate the serial #.

I called them about my 2nd gen G23 a few months back. They wanted $150 to upgrade. It is considered an exchange, you get a new frame with a new serial number that must be returned to you via an FFL and you have to wait 10 days again.

Wasn't worth it to me, better to just buy another gun for the price and the 10 day wait.

In the end you can't help but love it.

I dunno... I've got a G17 that's just not doing it for me. It's plenty accurate and reliable, but it doesn't fit my hand well, and is uncomfortable to shoot. I can see it becoming a safe queen.

I know lots of people love them, but I believe I'll be trading this one off on the for-sale board soon.
