    Transporting on motorcycle

I'd like to know what's the legal way to transport on my bike I'd either use a backpack or saddlebags. I'd like to ride to the range so ammo and firearm is what I'd have on me. Thanks for the help...

    Secure, locked container.
This could include locking hardbags, or a small locking container within the backpack or soft bags.

No restrictions on ammo as long as you don't ride onto school property.

          ^ Yup.

A couple guys will soon post that ammo can legally be in the case with the gun.
          This is true.
Also true is not every LE officer knows this.
I err on the side of caution and keep guns and ammo separate, which is the old Federal law from before all the California gun law silliness started.

Ya, but it's a little hard to get a day's worth of ammo in the same case with the gun... and it's nice to balance the bike's load.

But ya... if you see me carrying my locked case, there ARE loaded mags and/or speedloaders in that case.

I have slung a rifle on my back and cruised down 101 before. It was and still is perfectly legal but not recommended. For a handgun, either a locked container or UOC (if not going through a GFSZ).
