I have one and I don't know the answer. I bought mine at Bass Pro in Manteca last July. Can I look down the barrel and tell?

These are all pictures we just took of the FNP-40 barrel. Does this answer your question?

I hear from more than a few people who report of problem with FNP40's bighting off a small chunk of metal from the slide after 500 rounds or so. Is that true?

From what I read on the FNH forum, it seems that the takedown lever ends up rubbing a little gouge along the edge of the slide at one particular spot. However, from the pictures that I've seen, it doesn't look that bad at all, and is hardly any cause for alarm.

The take down lever is plastic so I highly doubt that... never had any issue on both of my FNP 40s.

Yes, it's in the slide right under the P. It's not "small chunk", just a little ding and it doesn't affect performance.

I notice the mark on mine after about 500 rounds and now that we're about 4,000 rounds, it's no worse.
