hiccup at the range

hey all I was at the range sunday with my Taurus PT-145 blasting away and at aound 100 rds or so something happened. When I plulled the trigger it fired like its supposed to the slide went back and went forward. The only thing is it went most of the way forward and got stuck for about a second with about half an inch left then went all the way, it happened so quick it caught me off guard. Does anyone know why that coulda happened?

the gun was bought used but it was manufactured in 2006. I cant reemember which one as I was using trying 3 different kinds. winchester white box 230 gr FMJ, remington green box 230 gr FMJ and PMC 230 gr FMJ. it went forward on its own i didnt have to touch it and it only happened only this once.

yes it was cleaning and lubircated I clean and lubricate it after every range trip, althought this time i was using gun grease instead of oil maybe that could of been a factor

You need to shoot more ammo to determine if there is a problem or not.
Could have been just a bad round.
Even factory ammo has the occasional bulged case, wrinkled case mouth at the crimp or even a crooked bullet.

For self / home defense rounds, I inspect and test chamber each round because I may have to bet my life on it being right.

I'll bet it was the Remmington ammo. I had sorta the same problem this weekend at the range. I was shooting my 1911. I also shot Winchester white box 230gr and Remmington Green 230gr. The minute I used the Remmington, I started having feed problems. The cartridge would go into battery, then the slide would stay open and fail to fire. Didn't have any stove pipes or anything bad...it just wouldn't fire. I had to drop the mag, pull the slide and let the cartridge drop through the mag well.

This happened with 5 rounds. In order to fire them, I had to load a couple in a mag and shoot them.

Now, to be fair, my 1911 is finicky with hollow points but I've never had this kind of trouble.

Sounds to me like an ammo issue. The ammo probably got hung up slightly on the feed ramp before the power of the recoil spring could get the ammo fully into the chamber. Shoot that brand of ammo more to diagnose, or skip that brand and go for something that you know works in your gun.

I have one more box of 50 so ill shoot it and see if thats the problem.

I have seen a similar problem with some re-loads I picked up but not with the factory ammo. Switch to name brand ammo and see if you have any more issues.

When I owned my USP .40 I tried reloading with my brother-in-law's equipment (I just had to buy the dies). I experimented through the range in the Hogdon Power Manual and i got some rounds near the bottom of the range in loads that did that: the expended case would eject, but there wasn't enough force stored in the spring to fully chamber the next one. The slide would be almost seated but I could see brass showing in the ejection port. I'd tap, rack, bang it but I stopped after 4 of those and went to a bigger load. Bottom line: I suspect problem ammo.

gun grease should not be a factor and it will protect those slide rails as well.
