    Family transfers

My uncle who lives out of state gave my grandpa an off list pistol last month, now my grandpa wants to trade me for my S&W model 60. I want to make the trade but the fact that the pistol (sig P250) has only been in CA for a month makes me wory that it will look like i'm trying to get it through a loophole. Am I over thinking this?

Did the out-of-state uncle give the handgun to an in-state grandpa or an out-of-state grandpa?
If it's an in-state grandpa, then the transfer needed to go through a CA FFL dealer. If it didn't both your uncle and grandpa committed FEDERAL felonies.
If it's an in-state grandpa and the gift was done through a CA FFL dealer, then after the DROS/10 day wait your grandpa can just give you the handgun and within 30 days of recieving the handgun you need to report the transfer to CA DOJ via Operation of Law or Intra-Familial Handgun Transaction Report + $19.
If it's an out-of-state grandpa, then when your grandpa gifts you the handgun it needs to go through a CA FFL dealer. Where you will do a DROS/10 day wait.
