    Spring Armory EMP snapshots

I picked up a Springfield Armory EMP the other day from City Arms in Pacifica. I recently became interested in getting a 1911 chambered in 9mm, and the fact that the EMP was shortened, from front to rear, to better accommodate the 9mm cartridge intrigued me. So, I bought one. The trigger is not overly impressive, but then again I am comparing it to the Ed Brown Special Forces that I picked up at the same time. The workmanship is outstanding, as are its ergonomics. Here are some snapshots:

I have a set of Larry Davidson's Monkey Grips in route for this pistol, specifically the Horned Lizard ones. See: http://davidsonknives.com/grips/grips.htm

This pistol deserves a trigger job, and the ambi safety will most likely be ditched in favor of a single-sided one. It'll definitely get some range time within a few days.

Love to hear the range report. I've been thinking about getting one of these.

            Oooohhhh...these things are CA-legal???

Wow......I just may have to get one!!! I've been wanting to get a 9mm to bridge the gap between my .22 and .45's for training new shooters, and I've been thinking about a Glock, but for some reason, this EMP *really* yells at me.

It says, "HEY DRJONES, TAKE ME HOME!!!"

I'm about ready to give in.

I've never cared for 1911s shorter than 5", but this thing really speaks to me for some reason.....plus, I've had such excellent luck with other Springfield products (I own 4, soon to be 5 Springer 1911s and an M1A) that I'm more willing to give this a try.

As far as the ambi safety, of course it's your call and you are a smart man, but if you plan on carrying this or using it for defense, I'd leave it - you could be caught in a situation where you cannot use your strong arm or it is disabled and the ambi safety could save your butt.

Other than that...I'd like to see 20LPI checkering on there and that baby is good to go!!!

I too look forward to your range report!

            Thanks for the amazing pictures!!

If you don't mind me asking, what was the gun priced at?

            Thanks!

MSRP is $1253, but I've seen them at Turners for $1049.

                Nice photo skills

What made you go w/ the EMP over Springfield's typical full size 1911 in 9mm? I also looked at the EMP's at Target Masters and they are really cool (and pricey ). Congrats.

Beautiful. I have the 9mm fullsize and now I'm lusting after an EMP. Let us know how the range trip goes.

i like mine. it's real tight (compared to my s&w 1911). i think the grip is kinda small though. it shoots just fine after i got used to it. kinda pricey, but i can't complain about it now after i bought it.

I was going to ask if this was an ""Emperor has no clothes" type of thread

Hopefully they'll be back up, I'd love to see your new baby!

UPDATE! I received in yesterday's mail the custom grips that I ordered for my EMP. They are "Horned Lizard" MonkeyGrips, made from durable G10, and crafted by Larry Davidson. See: http://davidsonknives.com/grips/grips.htm

                              Here are some snapshots:

                              These grips feel great!
