    RANT: Why Do Indoor Range...

Staff folks act like such dicks? almost like they are better than you. Yet not sure why they think this.

I was at an indoor range today and my buddy who is a new 1911 owner started asking him some questions. Below are the questions and the staffs response.

Buddy: Is there a specific tool you use to put in the slide release?
Staff: Yeah its called your finger, But be careful to not scratch the slide.

Buddy: I didn't scratch the slide
Staff: You are the first.. Most people who don't know scratch their slide and that is how i tell you are a new 1911 owner.

Buddy: Yeah...I tried to watch a video.
Staff: so you don't know how to assemble your firearm.

Buddy: No... I know how to assemble it. I watched a video online.
Staff: Maybe you should pause the video or play it in slow motion.

Buddy: Yeah well....Maybe. See you guys later.
    Staff:................. (No Thanks, Goodbye, Nothing)

How would you guys respond to such smart *** remarks? My buddy is super mellow and just let it slide. It annoyed the hell out of me though. I won't be going back there.

i don't want to say what range it is but... I will give you a hint.

It starts with F and ends in iring Line

It's not so much what he said, but how he said it. I've pretty much said the same things, but in a very lighthearted manner. If his attitude was holier than than thou, I'd have shot him.
And for what it's worth, he was an idiot. You don't scratch the slide, you scratch the frame.

      The following statement is true.
      The preceding statement was false.

And it's commonly referred to as an "idiot scratch".

If it is a range that rents firearms 99% of the people that walk in the door have absolutely no idea, have done no research beforehand, are disrespectful and downright dangerous. Now if I managed a range, my staff would always be polite, but frankly I don't blame them for putting your friend in that 99% group.

The correct way to react to that kind of service is to give another range your business.

It seems like every 5th time or so that I go to an indoor range I have to politely ask someone to not point their rented gun at me with the slide closed. I'm all for MMOB but that **** is getting really old, and I don't even work there.

You aren't doing it wrong ENOUGH if all you do is scratch the frame,

Maybe I should stop using my pneumatic reciprocating 1911 assembly tool?

Jerks. Spend your time and money elsewhere if that's how they're going to treat you.

yeah you gotta figure that they have hundreds of ppl coming in a day asking dumb things. I would get tired of it myself. if you going to rent/buy/check out a gun you should know about it first. i dunno, im sure everyone has their breaking point where they just dont care to be curtious anymore.

i got to one of those ranges in northridge, and while they know me I usually only communicate in short grunts to get my lane, ammo, and then to get out.

If you don't give a hint, I would say it is The Gun Room in Elk Grove!

All the guys over at the Burbank Firing Line are friendly folks, but I can see that they do have to work hard not to get frustrated with the high traffic of noobs, youngins, and wannabe thugs.

It's not always the case, but if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. There are many good ranges in SoCal that have helpful staff. However, there are also quite a few knuckleheads.

Listen, getting mad at them is like getting mad at the people at the take out window of a fast food joint. Is it really worth getting mad at them when they mess up your order? Follow me on this one...?
