Dollar for dollar value on 1911 - poll

Why do you have the Custom II against the Pointman?
If you can afford the Pointman, you can afford the Stainless Target II. Both of them are nicer than standard Springfield Loaded pistols, unless you're considering the Champion.
And the Colt Series 70 isn't even in production... and which model are you talking about... the Government Model, Gold Cup, etc... Neither of them will be as accurate as the pistols mentioned above. They're more collectible then accurate, unless you have the slides fitted, match bushings and other enhancements done. -
Colts are the best for your buck. I know they might not have the features but at the end of the day people will pay more for a Colt than any of the others.I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.
When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.Comment

You left out the best 1911, available in Cali, for the the money under $1000.
Smith & Wesson 1911"Most people understand that guns deter criminals. If a killer were stalking your family, would you feel safer putting a sign out front announcing, "This Home Is a Gun-Free Zone"? But that is what the Westroads Mall did" (in Omaha, Neb).

you are right that i should have put the stainless target II model in there, and i only threw in the series 70, becasue i have seen some nice really ones floating around in the 900 dollar range (bay area). its not the best poll, but it will do.I carry a custom stainless GAU-8Comment

Kimber Custom II or Custom Shop pistols. If it's primarily for target shooting, take a look at the Custom II Target. Hella tight tolerances, match grade barrels, and buttery trigger (once it's broken in). I have a Raptor II with a couple thousand rounds thru it by now, and the trigger keeps getting smoother. Lately, I've been shooting mostly my own reloads and have had zero failures of any kind. Yes, you'll pay a couple more bucks off the rack, but you'd add those upgrades anyway, in time.A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.Comment

O' it really depends, I had a bone stock 1991 Commander that would shoot like a tack driver and I've shot other supposedly much nicer 1911's that only shoot ok even though their triggers surely felt better.Proud to be a SoCal expatriate currently living in DFW, TX.Comment

Its always tough to figure out which production guns are "better." there is never one right answer. i have figured out though that kimber uses very few MIM parts, springfield uses more then a few MIM parts, and that the DW pointman 7 uses no MIM parts. maybe thats me looking for problems to far down the road, but nothing is more frusterating then a broken part at the range.I carry a custom stainless GAU-8Comment

There's target shooting, and then there's target shooting.
Of these guns, the only ones I ever see on the firing line of a bullseye match are worked over Colt 70s and the very occasional even more worked over Springfield. I've seen Kimbers, but it was the SuperMatch, and very rarely.
The potential re-sale value of the Colt moves it up over similarly featured guns, but the thing is, you can't buy them new in CA anyway. So don't know why they're even on the list. Unless you're like me, I'd rather buy a used or old NIB Colt than a gun not made in USA, or with the intricate safety BS.
I fully expect my next 1911 purchase to be an old Colt 70 series.
None of these guns, stock, will hold a candle to a Les Baer Hardball. That is the best value out there for Target Shooting (available in CA.) It will shoot rings around any of these guns, any day. And not that much more in cost, if you figure it's pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. If you ever had to sell it, you could get most of your money back on it, like the Colt.Comment

How about an Armscor or RIA. It is the same guns, way way way cheaper.Comment

The Dan Wesson (for a target pistol) is the best on the list hands down. Take it from someone who owns a lot of 1911's...including a POS S&W...Comment

This is probably the best 1911 for the dollar:
