    Sig options...help!!!

I'm very interested in buying my first Sig 9mm. For around a certain price, there about 4 options I like. Which should I get?

P226 with Hi Vis sights and 4 mags

    or

    P226 Navy

    or

    P226 Equinox

    or

    P220 Equinox.

Between the P220 and P226, which did you shoot better? Which felt better in your hand?

If the P226, then go for a P226R with night sights and four magazines. The Navy and Equinox are more flashy models and don't offer a real benefit for the price.

If the P220, get a P220R with night sights and a bunch of magazines.

      I don't think either Equinox comes in a 9mm, unless I'm mistaken?

Between the P226 (I'm assuming it's railed?) and the P226 Navy, they're effectively the same gun. If you have both at the exact same price, you're getting a "better deal" on the Navy, but only marginally just because of the model MSRP. I believe there used to be an extra anti-corrosion bit for the earlier production Navy that made it special, but that is no long true.

I really like the look of the Equinox, even though they're not in 9mm.

Most of the P226 Navy I seen have the thick dark trigger, but there was one with the thin chrome trigger. Is this a new model or old model or came with a short reset trigger? This one did feel better than other Navys.

don't pay extra for the navy's..they are no better. Get a 226R w/ night sites and as many mags as you can.

Whichever sig you get..... if you can get it with the short reset trigger.... get it.

              It completely transforms the gun!

You can read my pre-range report on it here:

have you thought about a P228 to throw in as a candidate for ownership?

leelaw is right on. Depending on what your intention is with the gun. Target, HD, Carry, etc...

The P226 is a double stacked 9mm and the P220 is the single stacked 45acp. They both have their advantages. The ammo shortage is not too much of a concern anymore but the CA 10rds mags could be an issue for you. If you're using it for HD, I would suggest the P220 with lots of mags. Equinox is more pleasing to the eyes more than anything and the grips are HUGE. Either way, you will be happy with your decision because Sigs are great guns.

                  Just IMHO.

I would just go with the first option. Hi-viz sights + 4 magazines, you're pretty much set. I've never dealt with the Navy, but I can speak on personal experience w/ the Equinox.

The Equinox model does not come chambered in 9mm, only .40s&w. The grips for me, and a lot of my friends are too thick and fat. It's a shame, because they're gorgeous. The factory night sights are great. Overall the package is not worth the extra dough. I feel like you're just paying for the looks. But if you got the money, and you really like the finish, go for it.

Just get the plain jane P226 or P220 and you're good to go.

OP- I am not sure if price is a big option, but Sig is rolling out some new P226's with different grips. Might be something to look at.

Another thought- You definately want full-size as a P228 or P229 might be nice for CCW and/or travel. And still be nice for home use.

I would go 9mm for sure. I love it and its my main round.

Thanks for the info everyone. A SRT on any P220 or P226 would make my day. These 4 choices all ranged in the mid $900 range.I think I'll check out the P226 with 4 mags.

Be careful not to confuse short reset trigger and short reach trigger.

The thin trigger (it comes in nickel and black in different models) is called the short reach trigger since it makes the reach to the trigger shorter. Triggers for sigs can be bought anywhere and are about 25 - 30 dollars so if you decide that you want the standard or short reach you can always buy and install it yourself.

The Short Reset Trigger, allows for quicker follow up shots by allowing you to release the trigger a little and squeeze off another round. If the gun doesn't come with it from the factory you have to send it to sig to get it done to the tune of 150 dollars I believe or find someone that will send you the kit to install it yourself.

I believe to avoid confusion Sig has started calling their short reach trigger, a reduced reach trigger.

Thanks Ultimate, I believe it was a short reach trigger. Felt so good.
