    Proof of Residency ?

If I read it right, the address on my utility bill does not have to match the address on my driver's license, as long as its the same address I will declare on the DROS?

Im pretty sure what you declare on the DROS, the address on your ID, and your proof of residency, all have to match. But Im not 100% sure. Someone in the know will chime in soon..

correct. For CA's residency requirement, as long as your POR has your current address on it and that is the address on the 4473, you have complied with CA law. But, if your ID/DL doesn't have your current address that you put on the 4473, federal law requires you to provide a government-issued document that has your current address on it. If you utility is run by a .gov entity, then that would work, otherwise you need to provide something else with your current address on it.

Yup, they all have to match. Found this out the hard way this past couple of weeks. Ordered a new SA Loaded and then realized I had no way to prove residency. I dont have a car, so DMV registration is out, and since im in college, my utility bills dont match the address on my license. I had to go to the DMV, request a new id with my current address, and wait a week or two for the new license to come. It came a couple days ago so my Loaded is in jail for another eight days.

Incorrect. Your ID/DL does not have to match your other documents, but you have to provide documents that do match the address that you list on the 4473/DROS.

I can confirm that ID/DL do not have to match proof of residency documentation. I just did a PPT/DROS today with car registration as proof of residency, which has a different address than my DL. Went through no problem. I am told sometimes shop employees may not know the law and may give you some trouble for not matching documents, but they don't technically have to match because people move all the time, and IDs/DLs may not be current.

ke6uj is right. The address on the ID doesn't have to match as long as you have supporting documentation to prove residency. Some shops will flatly refuse to sell you anything unless everything is matching **coughtargetmasterscough** so you might have to take your business to a shop with better understanding of the regulations.

I just ran through this a few weeks ago. Moved recently and my address does not match my DL. All that the shop required was an Electric Bill with my current address.

See page 34 under Proof-of-Residency Requirement in the Handgun Safety Certificate guide.

So if you move, is there anything you have to do for handgun registration? I mean you dont have to send in a form saying that youve moved and your address is different than the one filled out on the original DROS form right?
