Looking for new pistol - your input needed!

I'm looking for a new pistol to supplement my Remington 870 as a home defense weapon. I prefer something that is known for its tactical abilities as well as accuracy. What would you recommend? My budget is up to 1k.

CZ75B.....tactical and accurate 9mm. You can bring one home for about $650. Or a CZ 97b, same idea in .45, for maybe $800.

No matter what you decide on, try one out first.

As a HD piece, stick to the major full size service pistols: Sig 226, Beretta 92FS, Glock 17/34, CZ 75/SP-01, Ruger P95, etc. Each person is different and it depends on how you and the piece like each other. Rent a bunch of them and pick the one fits you the best.

S&W M10 Heavy Barrel ~$500, spend the other $500 on practice ammo.

        Or

Any ninja-fied polymer pistol with every tacticool widget known to man hanging off it.

Sig P229, Glock 19 or 23, Ruger P95, Ruger SP101. I would recommend any of those.

I wouldn't go any bigger than those unless you have huge mits.

1K budget for just a pistol?

I say, go with SIG, HK, or a 1911 hitting that price and you are good to go!

Depends on your home and defense that you're looking for. Is it just for you or you and a wife/girl friend? That will play in the caliber of the gun. I would also consider looking at a revolver rather than a semi-auto. I would think you would want something that you can just pick up and pull the trigger rather than trying to remember if the slide is racked. Also I would consider some type of laser or light attachment. Those can be just as good a deterrent than someone actually seeing the gun and will help you when you're adrenaline is pumping.

I just got a Springfield XD-40 Sub Compact.

I own a 5" barrel model and I actually shoot the small gun better.

I also picked up a IWB holster last week for around the house at night. I feel like a "mall ninja" wearing it around the house, but I'm also all alone so what the hell. Pizza guy didn't seem to notice.

It's small and fits in my little lock box. 10 rounds of .40 S&W is always a good thing (comes in 9mm and .45 as well).

I'd say get a subcompact XD, Glock, or M&P. Whatever you shoot better.

My vote is Glock 17 or M&P 9mm. $500-600 with
                      Tactical Light (Streamlight TLR1, TLR2 or Surefire X300, X400)

Good chance if you need it, it's going to be dark.

XD45, double safety without having to worry about a thumb safety. Has the full legal cap and you can get one for under $650.

                          G21/G21sf and $400 worth of ammo . . .

Or any fullsize glock in the caliber you prefer, and $400 worth of ammo

If you have time and a range that rent guns, I would recommend spending time shooting all of the guns mentioned before making a purchase.

My friends have bought the XDs and Glocks because that is what they could afford. Once they shot my 1911s they wished they would have saved up money for a 1911.

If you have $1K to spend on a gun, I dont think you will be disappointed with a nice 1911.
