Love my PX4, Like it a lot more than the Glocks and XDs. Do a search on this forum and you'll see plenty of people extolling it's virtues.

My XD has been flawless. I can't even begin to guess how many rounds. Glocks will treat you well if you can get used to the different grip angle (I can't, don't know why) don't know jack about the PX4.

I have the Glock 22, no problems. If you have smaller hands it may take getting use to the grip.

Love my PX4 .40, the rotating barrel makes it a softer shooter than my friends 9mm. I've had ZERO malfunctions after 1,300 rounds. The trigger is heavy to start, but after several hundred rounds it's eased up. I personally like that it's still a hammer fired gun and that it has a decocker/safety. IMHO one of the most attractive polymer pistols:

I was nearly dead set on the PX4 for my first handgun, but the shop I had fondled it at had already sold it, then I found my CZ 75 compact .40. Love at first touch. But it's a little steel framed, brick of a pistol.

I really liked the XD40 I shot. Trigger was smooth, but it had a pretty long pull. The M&P pistols are some of the best feeling polymer guns in MY hand, never had the pleasure of shooting one, though.

Ive always liked the looks of the PX4, but never bought one. For some reason I ended up with two Sig P226's. Im good.

Go to the range and shoot them, as they all shoot rather differently. I have a preference toward Glocks. My tiny wife can shoot them just fine so I don't think you need large hands to shoot them well.

other than the Glock 22 and the STI, all the guns mentioned so far have been optimally designed for the .40,

for something different i'd suggest looking at the Sig or H&K...it is a good thing to be familar with different action types

the Sig 2340 is a sleeper value in a polymer pistol with good accuracy and a great trigger

the H&K P2000 is a bit smaller and was the ergo model for the H&K P30

glock 23 which is the smaller glock has snappy recoil. I imagine if you have large hands its probably less of an issue.
