    Bay Area FFL?

    Hi all,

I'm pretty new here and need some advice from the Bay Area members. I'll be transferring a handgun to my brother-in-law, and need recommendations for a Bay Area (preferably East Bay or near Hercules) FFL who does PPT. Also, any recommendations on a place to test for the HSC as he does not yet have one.

    Thanks!

Check out Bullseye Shooting range in San Rafael, they'll do PPTs and the HSC.
    Please, calm down.

give a buzz to Leelaw. He is in Fairfield, down the road from Hercules (about a 15 minute drive , and Lee is good on hours too) and very fair on PPTs. Nice guy. I think he is a HSC instructor as well.

Canyon Sports in Martinez is the closest. But they are not particularly friendly, nor inexpensive.

Old West Gun Room, in El Cerrito is friendly place, don't know their prices.

Only been in there twice, and this is how the trips went:

                  1) went in, was the only person there. Checked out some toys, tried to talk guns a bit, asked about some parts for an old Winchester lever gun. Dude told me he didn't have what I needed, but could order it. I said okay, gave him my number. The whole time he was a little rude and short, but I assumed that to be standard "gun shop guy" attitude. Called several times about the parts, he continually failed to order them, but I assumed that to be standard "gun shop guy" flakiness.

2)After finishing up a big contract, my shooting buddy/business partner and I went in there looking to spend money. I usually buy online, but the place is about 2 miles from one of our worksites, and we had just gotten several thousand dollars each for a couple weeks of hard work. I'm chicano (and in the summer I certainly look it), Dan's mixed black and Japanese, but most folks would just assume he's black. Neither of us look ghetto.

We went in looking to buy. ANYONE could have sold us ANYTHING that day. Instead of saying hello or trying to help us, dude just buzzed us in and let us look around while bantering with two "standard gunshop hicks" at the counter. That's fine, we had time, but it would have been nice to have help. Dude was pulling out guns for his friends to check out, and as he pulled one large revolver out, said something to the effect of "perfect for when you see Juan and Tyrone coming up the driveway." We just said goodbye, walked out, and decided to spend our money elsewhere.
