Contenders again !

From what I read on this site, it looks like TC Contenders are exempt from "the List" requirements now.

As long as they have a barrel longer than 3" that is.

Anybody else excited by this?

I've been thinking of getting one. I just have to decide which caliber(s) to get. I was thinking 357 Maximum would be fun.

Not happy with the Contender per se as I don't really have a want for one but on the other hand it's nice to an "exemption" to the stupid safety law. Now if we can force more of these exemptions into the system. Say an exemption for any pistol used regularly in competition and expand from there.

First I've heard of a Contender exemption. Is the exemption for all Contenders starting back in, I believe, 1967? Or is it just for the new & improved version? Got a link to the update?

It's not an exemption specifically for Contenders, it's an exemption for single-shot pistols. The Contender happens to neatly fall into the exemption as defined.

Lets just say, hypothetically, that someone has had a Contender, several barrels and a sholder stock locked in the safe for a while.... 1) will it be OK to bring it out of the safe now 2) is the sholder stock legal 3) is there an upper limit to barrel length(for example, 16" barrel

and to Bear... Barrel 6" or longer with total assembled length of 10 1/2" or more... you will not find a 3" contender barrel....I don't think

Actually starting this year, you can buy any G2 Contender or Encore in rifle or shotgun configuration. That was new for 2005. The factory and DOJ or somebody relented, and they became available for sale this year.

But converting a long gun to a pistol is a felony.

So nobody would sell frames only.

So now we can finally buy the Contender (and Encore) as a pistol. It's allowed to make a pistol a rifle, but not vice-versa. This should allow frames-only sales in CA, because they will be exempt from the drop-test "List" requirement.

I already have eight barrels, but only one Contender frame. Need a couple more Contender frames.

And at least one Encore frame.

I have never actually tried an Encore... are the barrels interchangible with a contender??

No Contenders and Encores are separate species.

Barrels, grips, and forends, from one don't fit the other.

I have all Contender stuff, but the small frame of the Contender limits the calibers to either smaller bore, or lower pressure cartridges.

Encore can handle stuff much bigger than what I would ever want.
Need an Encore so I can very ocasionally shoot some of the calibers I like, without having to keep an entire rifle in the safe all the time.
