I have a Ruger p90 .45. I haven't shot more than 1000 rounds but I have noticed while cleaning a wear spot just below the feed ramp. It looks like it has been hit with a center punch, that area is aluminum and the only thing that I see that can contact this area is the pointed part of an empty mag could this be caused by dry firing? I have done that on occasion.

It could be from the mag follower. The followers are identical to chip mccormick 1911 followers that have been known to gouge 1911 aluminum frames. There are also plastic p90 followers. They will change your mag capacity from 8 rounds to 7 rounds but they won't hurt your frame. Contact ruger and tell them what is going on and maybe you can get them to send some 7 round followers and mag springs. Midway usa also sells the followers and springs. Mark

Thanks for the info. I checked out the midway links and it appears that type of follower should cushion the frame. The owners manual only lists 1 follower, Midway say the plastic one is factory equip. The 2 that came with the gun and 1 that I bought are steel and real pointy. I am trying to make sense of this though, The only time the follower has a chance to make contact with this area is after the last round in the mag has been inserted into the chamber. At this point the slide goes forward seating the round in the chamber. Last round fired, slide locks back. Does the damage only happen when the mag is empty and inserted and then the slide is released forward? Ruger has made and sold a ton of these guns and mags, is it operator error (sending the slide forward on an empty mag) or design flaw?We will do as we will do because I am me and you are you.Comment
