I noticed recently that I am left eye dominant with a pistol but a rifle I am right eye dominant. just wondering if I am not alone or its a issue.

I am extremely left-eye dominant, to the point where I had to learn how to shoot rifles left-handed. This is a result of spending a significant part of my childhood legally blind in my right eye. In any case, it's pretty consistent, so I can't imagine why you would feel more comfortable using different eyes for different situations.

Your brain doesnt switch dominance because of different gun. If you are left eye dominant than u are stuck for life.

That is what I am thinking. Been reading eye dominance and see that it can all of a sudden change. Haven't shot any of my rifles in months, so I will see at the range later today.

I know alot of people who r right handed but left eye dominant. When it comes to the rifles they shoot left handed. They usually dont have a problem with the handguns.

I have the same issue. What I have been doing is switching eyes when transfering to a pistol but it takes training and when you're competing under time sometimes I have forgotten which sucks. It just seems way too odd for me to shoot with a handgun with my right hand. -Ben

my kid is left eye dominant, but right handed for everything. for now, i tell him to just keep both eyes open cause he has a hard time closing his left eye and keeping the right open. i dont want him putting his head way on the other side of the stock. im thinking ill try the "tape" method and see how that goes. if not, he will have to learn things lefty.

I can't say I have ever had a student in class that described this situation. Are you sure you are not just overcoming your dominance while rifle shooting, that is forcing yourself to develop a sight picture and sight alignment using your non-dominant eye?

my bro's left handed and right eyed. He shoots pistols lefty, and rifles righty. My Dad's right handed and left eyed. He shoots all right handed, but keeps both eyes open. Experiment to see which way is most comfortable, you probably have something like that. It happens, and can be worked out.

I'm right handed and Left eye'd.I shoot rifle right manded and right eye'd.I shoot pistol right handed and usually shoot both eyes open when competing or running and shooting. When really focusing on pistol I'll shoot left eye'd with right eye closed. It's nothing a few years of experience won't bring.

Just got back from the range. Tried left handed shooting on my mosin and it was extremely hard to focus, switch to the right and everything is fine. and the pistol was best out of the left eye right handed. I have both eyes when I shoot BTW. I am going to talk to my optometrist Wednesday for my yearly checkup.
