Nickel vs Stainless

If a weapon is Nickle plated, copper is often used as a substrate material. If you are using an aggressive copper removal cleaner to clean out the barrel and it gets onto the plated brass, it might have the opportunity to attack that substrate. This would be a concern on a plated revolver where the barrel and the frame cannot be separated to prevent that issue.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - On second thought, hold the Lawyers.Comment

Thanks for the input. What I got out of all the posts is, nickel is more attractive and good for a safe gun or a gun that wont be fired much. If stainless is not an option for a range/defensive gun, electroless nickel is the next best bet. And stainless can be polished to be almost as pretty as nickel. Now, will too much polishing affect the functioning of a stainless gun? Revolvers and semi-autos.Comment

As long as you don't get crazy with a dremil your first time you will be fine. I would start with some mothers mag polish and a cloth and get to work. Start under the grips first so you can see what it looks like and plant your but in front of the tv because it is going to take you some time.Comment
