Well, I know it's California Legal and I since it's $1,000 It would take a long time for me to get one considering I don't even have a job yet..... and the fact that I'm not 21 at the moment. I turn 19 in 2 months, that means I still have around 2 years and 2 months to wait, Are there any upcoming laws that would make the FN Five-Seven illegal in CA?

Nope. The only thing you could possibly worry about is the gun falling off the "Safe Hand Gun Roster." Even then, you could always do a private party transfer.

Beware though, not only is the gun itself expensive, the ammo is hard to find and also expensive. If this is your first handgun, I'd strongly advise you to consider a different route and make sure you spend the next two years going to a gun range and shooting other handguns.

that is a question that no one can tell for the next 2 years. considering that we are ready for electing a new governor, he or she might do something incredibly stupid.

in any case, just have a family member buy them now and PPT it later would be a safe choice.

It's an ugly gun. Maybe by the time you turn 21, there might be a pistol in the 5.7 caliber that isn't painful to look at.

Yeah, I too was enthralled by the FN Five-Seven some time ago. But the more I looked in to it, the more I became disenchanted with it. Plus, the Five-Seven restricted to 10 rnd magazines is just dumb in my opinion. I must disagree with Cato however, I do think its a nice looking weapon. But you know what they say...pulchritudo in oculo conspicientis est.

The ammo is available at most gun stores around here, and to be had at under $20/box/50rds, usually.

The price point isn't far above 9mm or .45ACP.

As for the first-handgun comment: I agree. The Five-seveN is probably not the best to get started on. Look into Sig, or CZ (my personal recommendations)

Yes, but part of the allure with the Five-Seven is that it holds 20 rounds in a normal flush-fitting magazine.

Love mine.... It's my favorite handgun to shoot hands down.

Ammo is easy to find, recoil is light and if you get a hold of the LE rounds it's a great defense weapon.

Only con to it I see is that you can buy a very nice 1911 for the same price.

I shot one. Love it. It's very accurate with very little recoil. I'd buy one but can't afford it at the moment.

He probably means SS192, SS195 and/or SS198, which are marked by FNH as LE only (but I'm sure you know that!)

The FN Five-Seven is a very unique and incredible gun. However it's restricted variant that you can own in CA is unattractive.

-Weaker ammunition then what the gun is capable of shooting
-Half the standard magazine capacity

In my opinion the only attractive feature with this restricted variant is that it retains its incredible accuracy, but thats about it.

If AB962 goes to effect in 2011, Online purchase of ammunition will be made illegal, so finding its unique and rare ammo is gona be near impossible to find
