    XD Mag Release

Feel free to ridicule me if this has been hashed out already, but I did not find a definitive answer whilst searching.

I have a brand new XD 40. When I try to release a full magazine, it takes an incredible amount of strength to do so. If I push up on the bottom of the mag I can then drop it just fine. This leads me to believe that the rounds are mushing the magazine down onto the magazine catch in a way that makes it very hard to release the mag.

So my questions are as follows:
    -Is this a known issue?
-Will it go away with use?
-Is there a known fix to this issue?

Again, feel free to point me in the proper direction if this question has already been answered.

I haven't had this issue with my XD9. Maybe it's specific to only the 40? Seems like it shouldn't be the case, though.

Not necessarily an issue, as most guns exhibit this to a certain degree. Both my XD and P226 did this when loading to full capacity using new magazines.

Typically, yes, it gets easier as the springs weaken and the parts grind against it each other.

The magazine release on the XD was a nightmare for me to re-install.. I might be missing a secret technique but if you're up for it, you can try removing it and see if you can smoothen any rough spots out. I do not recommend mucking with your magazines. In all honesty, I would just use the gun normally and give it a chance to wear in before trying to make any "improvements"

I figure that as with several things this should loosen up over time. I WILL NOT screw with the mags. I really don't plan on dropping fully loaded mags too often so it is not a huge deal to me.

        Thanks for this input.

I haven't had any similar issues with my XD40 since day one, with 5 different mags at this point. Is this a CA-compliant 10-rounder, or a standard 12-round mag you're having trouble with?

CA 10 round compliant (compliance, gosh I hate the way that sounds).

In a few days I will have the ability to try it with some 12 round mags that I hound in the woods... I can report then, but I think the situation may be a little worse with the spring under more compression.

I also had an XD40 upgraded to the extended and oversized mag release button, the mag release spring was a major pain to get back in, just an okay upgrade.

Did you feel that the extended release helped when releasing a full mag? I am actually quite comfortable with the current mag release size so I don't really want to change it.

I have the same issue with my xd9 too. Very easy to get the mag out when it is empty but a lot of force when it is loaded. Yes this is a known issue with XD. Do a search on xdtalk forum.

tactially it should not be a problem (maybe even a help) as in a SD situation you would only be dropping empty or close to emty mags.

as said some blame is due to the 10 round limits - there is not play in them so someone cant jam that eevil 11th round in.
