How much should a used G17 sell for?

I'm thinking about "trading in" my 1-year-old G17 for a G19 at Turners.

What's a realistic price I should expect to unload my G17 for? It's virtually new, fired less than 50 9ms through it.

As to why I want to trade it for a G19, the G19 just feels more comfortable to me in the hand, although I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Any accuracy compromises in the G19 due to the shorter barrel?

Here in the marketplace I would say $450-$500. Just see if you can get a trade in the marketplace.

You'd more than likely get a better price doing your sale PP [private party].

i believe you would do much better to list it here on calguns. i know that is not what you asked but i wanted to throw that out as an option, in case you hadn't thought of it. good luck with whatever you do.

I would private party it. You should get $400 to $450 for it. A gun store is only going to give you around $200 to $300 trade in value for it. Or you could just consign the gun to them.

I don't mind listing here at calguns one bit. It's just that I don't know how to go about the paperwork of a private transfer. I imagine that would involve somebody with a license?

Youd have to take it to a FFL.

                  400-450.00 private party

300-350.00 at the most from a FFL...remember your stuff isn't worth anything. Only the FFL's stuff has value.

                    edit, reread op post.

My suggestion would be shot a 19 first before you make a decision.

Will the gun store be asking for a cut? I should ask the store owner for an agreement first?

                      I'm in the brea area.

DEFINITELY a worthy suggestion. But I've shot the G17 already, is there a pronounced difference in recoil or trigger between the two? I did hold the 19 in my hand for about 20 minutes today, it felt easier to carry than the 17.

                            Davy,
If you find someone locally to sell it to (whether here on CalGuns or otherwise), all you need to do is arrange to meet your buyer at a local FFL. The FFL will do a Private Party Transfer (PPT) to register your gun to your buyer. Your buyer will need to bring their CADL, Handgun Safety Certificate, and a 2nd proof of residency (a vehicle registration will be enough). All you will need is your CADL. The FFL will retain the firearm for the 10-day waiting period. If, God forbid, your buyer turns out to not be able to have a firearm, the FFL will return your gun to you. The total cost of this transaction will be $35. The FFL will not (or should not) try to take a piece of your sale. That would only happen if you consign your gun for the FFL to sell for you. We do this and take 20% of the sale price. Others dealers take more.

As for value, you've been given pretty good advice already. A used Glock 19 would sell in my store for between $400 and $500 depending on condition. If you offer to sell it to me, I'm obviously not going to give you that full retail value. Remember, I can buy a new one for less than that retail price I just quoted you above. Your 19 would probably top out at $300 if I'm writing you a check. As for why, I could go into the whole wholesale/retail/cost/overhead/profit speech, but I think you get it. I'm in business to make money. I need to make a profit on what I buy in order to remian in business. You have the choice of whether or not to sell to me.

Hope that all makes sense. If you need any other questions answered, give us a call at the shop Tues - Sat. Good luck on your sale.

The gun store should NEVER ask for a cut when doing a PPT to a buyer. Unless its not part of your agreement that the buyer will pay the $35 DROS (Dealer Record of Sale) fee, then you will need to pay it.
