    40 or 45-Which one? Vote?

If you were going to buy one of these caliburs which one would you buy and why/
Also which is it easier to get ammo for? These days!

    #1) 40 Calibur

    #2) 45 Calibur

    I wish I would have put 9mm on this..But I already have a 9mm.

But these days I wonder about 9mm ammo availability in relationship to the other two caliburs?

The .45 -- I've got 3 .40's and I'll stay with them because that's what I've got and I want to keep one caliber of ammo. If I had it to over I would go with the .45. I've since shot .45's and I believe the recoil of the .40 is sharper and quicker than the .45. The .45 seems like a slower smoother recoil (if that makes sense) which makes follow-up shots easier and accurate. Plus the increase in knock down power - this is up for debate, though.

Isn't a "40" a liquid refreshment in the hood? Pete

I would go with a .40 caliber if it was my only handgun and I wanted to shoot a lot. I see .40 on the shelves way more often than .45 and it is a couple bucks cheaper a box. I would get both calibers though, if I was going to get more than one gun because .45 is great to shoot.

45ACP is up there with 9mm in most popular. If SHTF, common ammo is a huge plus.

After last night, I found out I shoot so much better with a .45 than .40 So I will vote that.

But both are good to me.

You will actually find 40 ammo, not so much with 45 as I haven't seen any on the shelves anywhere in 4 states over the past year. Constantly see 40. I like shooting 45 much more.

Yeah, if you can only find .40 ammo consistently but .45 is hit-or-miss for months on end, and you don't want to reload, then the .40 semi-auto makes sense over any .45.

But if you fall in love with a .45 semi-auto and it meets your price range, then buy it. Nothing like fondling and dryfiring a hunk of metal that you love.

45 is easier to shoot, 40 is easier to find. I have one of each and as already said the 40 tends to be a little snappy and the 45 is a little smoother. I do prefer to shoot the 45 of course it helps when it's coming out of my 1911 Redhemi

I'm going through the same debate myself. I think I'd rather buy the 45 first and be happy then get the 40 down the road.

I love 45's but can't seem to find much unless I reload my own. Also lately when I have been able to find 45 ammo it's been to damm expense to want and go shoot.

I have not had a problem finding 40 ammo and the price has been OK. So I have been shooting my 40 more. So I pick 40 aamo due to availability.

I am a big .45 ACP fan, as I have been shooting this venerable cartridge since 1982. Ammo is getting hard to find these days and based on ammo availability, I would pick the .40 S&W.

If ammo was both readily available, .45 ACP hands down.
