With this economic climate I gotta wait longer. My mind is already set on the mil spec. The design has some kind of nostalgia.

Yes.
Even the less expensive end of the Loaded line is made in Brazil.

What do you like?
Stainless is better for daily carry... fights rust from sweat and holster wear.
Some consider stainless to be "Bubba" if not used for daily carry.

But I hear ya' on being attracted to the Milspec. It is very nice, and Springfield has a good reputation for customer service (though some claim that with the Brazilian models, you will be taking advantage of that lifetime warranty at least once fairly early on).

They won't give a lifetime warranty if they don't have confidence in their product, right? What I like about the milspec is it doesn't have the forward serration. I like the slide to be plain as possible.

Supposedly, a year or so ago the Loaded was still domestic, and over the last year the lower end (under $1,000 or so) were exported to hold prices on the rest of the line down.

They've dumped the entire line?

I believe all SA frames are forged by Imbel in Brazil. Higher end models that are more than 50% fitted in the US have "GENESEO IL USA" stamped on the frame. M/ost of the Mil-Specs are stamped "IMBEL BRAZIL" and have an N prefix serial like my brother's gun. However I got mine last year and it has the Geneseo stamp with an NM prefix. So you may luck out and get on that was fitted out here in the US. Either way, both guns shoot great, and if a Mil-Spec is what you want then go for it.

Get the parkarized Mil-Spec. I have one, and it hasn't had a problem yet. I've acquired it in 2006 and have put a couple thousand rounds thru it so far. It reliably feeds SWC's a groups very well. The Mil-Spec has all of the necessary features. It's economically priced, accurate, and reliable. You can spend more for some bells and whistles, or you can save your money for more ammo and practice! Good luck!

Oh and the Mil-Spec is my 5th 1911. My first three are Colt Gold Cups in different calibers, followed by a Colt Officers Model.

Only a few of the Springfield Armory custom shop 1911s are not made in Brazil. Every other handgun that Springfield Armory offers is made in another country (Brazil or Croatia).
