Taurus PT 1911

i saw the pt 1911 at the range today. Someone let me handle it, but i didint go as far as to ask for a few shots. It seemed to me that this gun is comprable to other guns costing much more money. The guy also told me that the internals are all polished. ON top of it, he was shooting extremely well. seemed very fast, and i noticed close to no creep in the trigger pull. So why did i spend money on a kimber custom II when this thing was in the building? anyone have one? anyone like it as much as i did? does it have problems later in life?

I agree Taurus is NO GOOD spend the $900 and get a entry level Kimber

Do you have links to the bad reviews? I'm curious about what kind of problems people are having. The 1911forum folks love them, and people who own other 1911s (including Kimbers) are comparing them favorably to them.

Not being on The List is the real problem - it would sell like hotcakes here in California. Also, prices are reportedly going up steadily, since no one can keep them in stock.

i have not read bad reviews, and as i said i didint get to shoot it, just look. i now am wondering how this guy even had the pt1911 if its not on the list. maybe it used to be on there. anways. thanks for the info guys

No, it's too new, and at this point will never be on the list, as it doesn't have a magazine disconnect. Had they gotten it certified before 2007, it would have been grandfathered in, but no luck there.

The guy at the range either bought it PPT or brought it in from out of state with him. The List, as always, just limits selection and affordability in California, and the shooting public is the loser.

Based on actual user reports, it's pretty clearly the best value in a 1911 right now, with the features of guns costing many hundreds more.

The question about bad reviews was for slick_711, who's heard many bad ones. I haven't been able to find many owners saying bad things about them, so I'm curious.

i think the misconception here is that "all taurus guns are bad." i hate to say it folks, but taurus is doing some pritty interesting things. the pt1911 was very nice to handle, and as Maxicon said, there really are close to no bad reviews of this gun. i would say less if not the same as any other gun. in adition, go to gunblast.com, and check out how much love jeff has for taurus. they seem to be comming up as a company.

As for the OP. You can't get them in CA, but head over to the high road and read some reviews. All of the ones that I read where good. Also Gunblast.com has an piece on it. They were really positive on the gun (check the archives).

I personally own two Taurus guns and would not hesitate to get 1911 if it ever goes on the list.
