Very nice. IMO it will hold value even if you shoot it. But that's up to you.

Since it is not a new gun, then the market sets the price. Since you decided to pay more than you would have elsewhere then you set the market price. Also, prices for luxury items tend to be higher in areas that have more disposable income.
Example, Fowlers Gun Room and The Stockade can stay in business and have enough customers to keep 5+ people working the counters 7 days a week and they are generally considered to have the highest prices in the state. OC has a considerable amount of wealth (or at least folks that act like they do). They sell the same guns that Turners does for hundreds of dollars more in some cases and believe me they do sell plenty of guns. It has nothing to do with CA. being unfriendly towards guns.

If thats the original box it is worth a chunk o' change as well. Be sure to post pics of it on the rugerforum.com. A lot of collectors would have a sleepless night after seeing it.

          Good on ya mate!

Also, not many 4 5/8 barreled flattops in 44mag left the factory. One was given to Elmer Keith as a prototype but the majority of that barrel length are "cut barrels". Get a letter from Ruger (free for the asking) on how that gun left the factory.

            Beauty!

I love the hoglegs, they hold a place of reverence for me. You have a find there for sure!

Here are a few of mine.

(I have since fallen in love with the 41 Magnum as it seems to fit my needs better.)

How my BKH-40 lettered from Ruger!

According to Ruger Records, my BKH-40 shipped out of the factory in May of 1960, as an model BKH-40, with a 10" barrel! So, this BKH-40 is genuine! Good news!

1)You have some nice guns there also!

2)Your short shrouded barrel 6" GP-100 had been discontinued by Ruger awhile back and this gun is fairly rare and is scarce to find for sure!

3)Thanks for your compliment regarding my BKH-40 Flattop!

Thanks......I believe the 4-5/8" barrels are the more common ones....The story behind this Blackhawk was the original owner had lived in Alaska and this was his "Outback pistol". When he passed away, the revolver went to his brother, who didn't like guns, so he gave it to me. The Blackhawk had been stored under a barn floor in a plastic bag in a Tom Threepersons holster with a gunbelt that still had a few cartridges in it. It took me a little bit of work to clean it up, but it turned out pretty nice. It is a great shooter...

I have a bunch of other Ruger Blackhawks, but this one is my most favorite......

                    Blackhawk with an 4-5/8" barrel!

Well, common or not-ever since I was a kid watching lot's of western movies, I always was attracted to the neat looks of the 4-5/8" barreled S/A western revolvers!

It is a redhawk in 44 shrort lug you dont see them very often either. I really like the weight distribution on these, great for the piggies!
